Prior service Marine. Enlisted as 09S. Attending National Guard OCS in Alabama next summer. Any suggestions for how to be accepted in AOCS and not traditional. I know some of the standard answers- high PT, prior service is more likely, demonstrate capacity to handle it from day 1. I guess more specifically- I've been told Alabama pushes traditional unless there is a need for Accelerated, i.e. age about to max out, AGR position waiting to be filled, etc. How can I be selected for accelerated without having a specific need for it?

Why not just apply to federal OCS instead of National Guard? You will be apart of the active component.

I as well am a prior service Marine. You will have a very competitive file. Assuming all your paper is good to go, deployments, leadership, etc. Solid college transcripts?

If I haven't convinced you yet to resist the Alabama National Guard, while I was at federal OCS over half our class was Reservists and Guardsmen. They said it fit their timeline better. I don't know how or why they were afforded the opportunity at federal OCS, but I'm sure your National Guard Officer Recruiter could help you answer that.... Or tell him you want federal OCS.

I'm curious on your response.

I would suggest going after a Federal slot if possible. I’ve not heard anyone say they had a good experience at AL’s OCS program. I was able to get a federal slot in my contract, thankfully.

LTC (Join to see) - I would suspect the sanity of anyone that said they did have a good experience. I will say that I detested all my TAC's and had little respect for them. I just decided to consider it a trial that I had to get through to get where I wanted to go.

I went to AOCS at AMA. It was an experience. I had to interview at my home state of NC. A lot here are talking about going to Federal OCS. It is an Option but why spend 3 months doing OCS when you can knock it out in 2 months. Plus, I couldn't go to Fed OCS due to not meeting the requirements. I had too many active duty years to go to Fed OCS. Every state does select on different needs. This is something that you really need to get with your state officer strength manager to find out. Stuff like this changes all the time.
