Business
Square yourself away.
Straighten up.
Count copies of resumes.
Hunt for what you like.

We all do this at a job fair. It's meant for that, and so we fall in line with the process. Is there more we can do? Of course. Take for example myself: I'm hosting what I'm calling a "Summer Social" (bit.ly/networktoknow) and the catch is -- No Resumes! It's important that we remember that as much as we do "look great on paper", there are still employers out there that want to know you....

...the real you - the you they would see in the Walmart where you think no one's watching. We're all human, and they should see you as such when you speak. Don't give the tired "I'm a team player" comment. If they're talking to you, they should be able to figure that out- they are the ones with the MBA's and stuff right? Of course.

When you get the opportunity, just "bottom-floor it" - Get the conversation started. Build a relationship that even if they don't select you for the job, they'll remember you.

I think the discussion title is a little misleading. If we are already friends in person then connection does not make sense unless it is limited to an on-line connection. That being stated, I concur that knowing your potential employer, especially when we have gone through stressful events, tends to reduce the requirement for a resume when seeking employment.

Interesting - I'll try to adjust the headline then. Thank you!
