How different is it being an Army Ranger Officer compared to a Special Forces Officer?

A LT can be a Ranger officer, a LT cannot be a SF officer. Ranger regiment is an assignment, SF is a career field. You would pretty much need to choose - be a Ranger and try out for the Regiment provided you are an 11A, or could be any Officer branch and try out for SF. If you make it into the Regt, you'll do a few years probably and unless you are one of the absolute greatest, go back to regular Army. If you get selected for SF and graduate the Q course, you will become an 18A and stay SF.

I should think that the Ranger Regiment (although It not really a regiment) would have many branches other than Infantry, but I could be wrong. Some off top of my head would be IN, SC, QM, MI, MC, MSC, AG, I base this on my time in the Horny Horses, 6th US Cavalry ( real one at Meade, not the imposters down in TX). It was a real Regt and did not start re-lettering in each Batt, for example. 75th seems to be a conglomeration of Ranger Batts in a formation called a Regiment.

MAJ Ronnie Reams - The other branches are those that support ops, in their respective sections. I assumed the original poster meant the Ranger Platoon Leaders when comparing Rangers and SF. The other Officers are typical to any Infantry Brigade, except they have to attend RASP 2 to do their assignment at Regt, then move on to another assignment after, same with support Officers at an SF Group (minus the tryout).
