I was denied a security clearence before I shipped off to basic in 2013. The reason was due to a DUI when I was 18 years old. Since then I haven't been in any trouble, civilian or military related. How do I go about getting a clearence. My MOS is 12B, and alot of my mos related schools require a clearence.

That DUI is gonna hunt you for a long time. I do know that some things after about 7yrs do go away from criminal record but im not sure about DUI.

SFC (Join to see) mi alternate armorer got his background check, not even a clearance but the regular 7281, and it appeared a "non authorized cellphone usage while driving" that he got back in 2008 in Germany. I think that DUI is gonna stick longer than we think...

The normal clearance goes back 5 years. You may just have to wait until it goes by the calendar. Meaning 5 years from no it wont show on your record. If you try you may get it removed but it's not likely. You didn't say what level you need. Some programs only require an basic entrance like a NACLC investigation while some go to SSBI and above. Your command staff should be able to help. Be aware that you may not be eligible for a short time or ever depending on the level needed. Be honest on your answers. They WILL find out the truth and a negative answer is initially better than a lie down the road.
Good luck.
