I have been in the army for 4 years and then I had 3 years in the IRR. I had some issues with PT before but now I'm back in The reserves this time and I've been back in now for 6 months and have yet to have a PT test. I am ready and doing better than ever.
I understand that I have to lift the flag and pass a PT Test. But how do I continue to get promoted? I was an E3 but now E2.

Did you do your SSD 1 yet ? that is a show stopper as well as MRC status and over all readiness. Is your pay, SGLI, dd93 and all that good stuff up to date ?

SPC(P) (Join to see) - If you are on Module 3, then your SSD 1 is not complete. MRC is Medical Readiness Class. This means what level you are (Green, Amber, Red) in regards to your medical status. DD 93 is the Record of Emergency Data. Is no one at your unit educating you on these things?

If a failing APFT is holding you back, once you have a passing APFT, then the Flag is to be lifted. If you have met the TIS/TIG requirements, then you will be advanced to PFC

SPC(P) (Join to see) - Not always. I have known Soldiers that met their TIG while Flagged, and then shortly after the Flag was lifted, they were advanced. But, that was up to the Commander(s).

So my issue is for as long as I've been in I should be a specialist if not a Sgt or am I wrong? How does that work?

SPC(P) (Join to see) - Your Team Leader/Squad Leader/Platoon Sergeant can easily ask the 1SG if they have a Flag on you. If you have a Flag present, then there's the issue. If there is no Flag, and all other blocks are Green (SSD1 Medical/Dental, etc), then ask your NCOs to speak on your behalf as to when you can get advanced. But, to your other question, yea you could have been a SGT by now, the meat and potato's of it all is that you are now a PV2. What this means is that while you have the TIS requirements met, you will still have to meet each and every TIG requirements before your next advancement/promotion.
