How do I go about getting old jump manifests, or other proof of jumps, from 1972 -1981 (Army & Marines)?

Very hard indeed! As you moved from organizations your jump records were given to you and the unit’s kept a copy of them for up to 2 years; after that they disposed of them. To the best of my knowledge, you can get copies of orders awarding the parachutists badge, or in the case of USMC, naval parachutists badge from the military archives. Also, Fort Benning can provide proof of any service member who has attend jumps school.

Did you not keep a personal jump log and have the jumps signed off by the S# air, or JM?. What did you do with your official jump log when you got out?

Your best bet at this time is to find out if your units kept operational records with supporting documents that were then archived in accordance with regulations. If you received Jump Pay and you kept your pay vouchers, that would be one form of proof for 1 jump per 3 month period. If you do not have your pay vouchers, you should be able to contact the DFAS office and determine where you need to send a request for pay records. Going through finance will probably be your best bet, but only validates 1 jump for any 3 month period.
For unit records you have two options and I suggest checking both.

SSG Robert Webster is he looking for the DA Form 1307? Wouldn't that be in his existing record? I'd just be his Five at Airborne School and if he happened to do any other Army run jumps.
The Marines apparently use the OpNAV 3504/1 for manifest and the Marine is supposed to maintain their locally procured log book individually from the MCO issued in 2009 and 2014. https://www.marines.mil/Portals/59/Publications/MCO%203120.11A.pdf
I like your pay records approach. This may sound cynical but, Sgt Wayne Wood were you ever docked pay for lost or damaged air items? That may also be an avenue.

LTC Jason Mackay - Other than for Jump School, I do not know if the USMC uses the DA Form 1307.
The information I provided is from personal experience of being an Airborne Company Operations NCO and Brigade Assistant Operations NCO in an Airborne Brigade. I found out the hard way about trying to reconstruct Jump Log records, and it is not an easy or fun task.

SSG Robert Webster - the Marine Corps Order says the OPNAV 3504/1 is the only official records, but I assumed he would have a 1307 for Airborne School.
