I've made the mistake a few times. I think I have an original and interesting link, but don't see that it's already posted until after I've posted it again! I had assumed RP logic would prevent it, but no. So, what's the TTP?

This is a great question.....and from the responses I see some are not clear on the difference between posting a LINK and asking a question to start a discussion.
Discussion starting questions: A great way to see if your starting a duplicate question is to watch the suggestions being made to you as you type in your question...as well as looking to the left in the "Similar Discussions" box . If an admin notices a duplicate discussion question, most times we will merge them, closing the "newer one" and adding all responses to the original posted thread.
Links by Admin rules we work under, we do not merge.
Many times complaints of "why does RP allow the same topic to be posted 20 times a day" is not what they think.. Its not 20 questions posted on the same topic, it's 1 question, and 19 links and or member updates all referencing the same subject.

EDIT:See below for the pointed response to the question..

Thanks. Yes, the questions filter works well, and allows me to avoid redundant questions. For Links, it appears there is no filter.

This is just WAG on my part but...

With over 500k members and growing, it would be a herculean task to hit (search) the thread/post database every time someone posts a link to literally, anything on the internet. Response time would take a big hit, causing much anxiety amongst the rank and file.

Post it anyway. It doesn't matter and you will expose your post or idea to a new set of observers that may well have missed it elsewhere.
It's not about redundant messages so much as it's about who reads the post.
