How do you deal with someone trying to call you "Stolen Valor"?

I have Bronze Star license plates where I had to prove to the state of Virginia I was awarded the medal. I have no problem.

Interesting question. Women have been dealing with this issue for years. Many women are berated for parking in veteran spots. Some pull out their VA card, some ignore and some educate. Chose what is right for the situation.

You served your time brother. If an asshole for some reason wants to challenge you, no need to lose your cool. If inclined, show your ID. As for me, I will most likely laugh in the person’s face and walk away. There is a certain level of pride being a quiet professional. I once had a dude who was allegedly a Marine question my service because I didn’t join in the conversation they were having… They were talking about a bunch of BS that absolutely made no sense. The straw for me was when he said he was in Alpha Company, 2/5 in the 90’s… As a 5th Marines alumni, (2/5 and 3/5) I knew he was full of crap. His stated company did not exist… I just smiled and walked away from him and the group.

On that note you never went into if it’s has happened to you, rather if you were approached. If someone asks, and simply Yes I am. And move on.

Although I will confess to on occasion wearing a baseball cap that alludes to a certain portion of my military career, the military, just as any other occupation, functions often on a “need to know” basis. That same personal and professional bearing and discipline helped carry me through my second career in law enforcement and is still with me today; so is “need to know.” It is with me today and will remain so.

I am now retired, and, subsequent to retirement, disabled. That being written, do you really need that parking space?

Honestly if someone is being that aggressive about just walk away. I seriously doubt an employee from the store is going to check your credentials about it. I don't normally park in those spots, because I think someone on leave visiting their family should get that spot before some old guy like me. Besides I need the steps.
