Those are pretty disparate choices. What is your thought process?
Are you looking for certain skills or opportunities?

SFC(P) (Join to see) I was a Gen mechanic / vehicle mechanic for 15 yrs in Active Army. You must have had a completely different experience from me. I enjoyed being a Gen mechanic, plus on deployments you are the go to guy. But to each his own. If you want to be an airplane mechanic, I've known a few and they have issues and problems just like any other mechanic. Just remember the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Your experience is what you make it.

SGT Benjamin Lindsey - I think I'm just tired of the full time aspect of being a ground vehicle mechanic like the 1sg said above if I go officer I could do different stuff full time

SGT Parrott as someone who went from the AF Reserve to Active Duty way back in 1989, I had to stay in the same MOS I already had. And, having worked closely with Recruiters lately because my youngest son wants to be a PJ (AF SPEC OPS), normally the only way you can cross over branches is in the SPEC OPS community. Now, that is not to say that it is impossible; but like mentioned earlier if you are going to have a Bachelors Degree at the end of this semester, then you will want to talk to an Officer Recruiter specifically. They will be able to get you scheduled to take the Air Force Officer Qualification Test. Basically, it's the Officer version of the ASVAB. Having your Bachelors Degree in the career field you want to go into will also be a huge bonus. As for flying slots. they are getting harder to come by and quite a few officers that had flying jobs now fly drones. If you really want to be a pilot, why not go into either the Warrent Officer or Officer flying programs in the Army. As you probably know WO just fly for a living, while Officers have certain blocks they have to check off in order to be promoted to Major and above. And, some of those duties are non-flying positions. Now, you could always cross into your state's Air Guard or another state's that has an AGR flying mission that would give you the best of both worlds. You would get to fly and not have to constantly be PCSing every 2-3 years like most Officers in the Active Duty Air Force do. You and your wife have a lot of things to consider before you sign your name on the dotted line; so to speak. Good luck and God Speed with whatever you decide.
