I recently encountered a junior soldier who wore a patch I didn't recognize who was walking around outside in a VERY ate-up uniform. I showed him my ID card and identified myself and explained to him where he was wrong and asked him to correct the deficiencies. At which point, the soldier told me to go f*** myself and then tried to fight me. Now, the grunt in me got really excited and couldn't wait to wall-to-wall this young soldier, but the professional in me simply wouldn't allow it. So I asked what unit the soldier belonged to, to which he responded "To your f***ing mama, b****." Now RP Leaders, how would you suggest I go about rectifying this situation, or should I simply leave it be and let the Karma catch up with him?

**ADMIN NOTE** I still have not been able to find the patch and it's corresponding unit, so I have no way of finding this soldier's Command.

Man, that's pretty harsh....sounds a bit like ego got in this General's way....sorry but if I was him, I think I would have talked to the SP4 and not busted him down ranks. That's messing with someone's career and pay and for what.....really? A mistake that anyone could have done.....Just my thoughts. I believe in second chances.....considering what it is.....

I'm sorry, as soon as I read the part about "and then tried to fight me" I had to stop reading. As soon as the "Soldier" went down that road, you are well within your rights to lay into him. Respect is earned, not given. If he didn't respect your rank, he'll respect a right cross to the temple in short order. Self defense, all day long!

Depending on the Unit and Post, (and it's getting worse) arrogance, disrespect, and Noncommissioned officers that will not or do not do their duty is running rampant in the New Action Army. Yes, raising your voice is a sign of weakness, Military police and the individuals chain of command simply do not care unless it will affect them directly somehow.
The Army needs to get out of the daycare business, the feel-good business, and get back to the basics of developing disciplined soldiers that can fight and endure. It seems that there is more compassion for offenders than action.
It's the Army and our Country that will reap that Karma.

Wow! This is the military that evolved from laziness. If you don't have absolute respect in day to day dealings, what do you get in combat. These used to be covered under UCMJ Article 15. Even while I was still in leadership was reluctant to give article 15s because they were being used to deny promotions. If we can't bounce them off a wall or take pay, grade, and time for minor offenses, we don't have any real authority. I promise if one of mine was disrespectful in this way, they would be doing extra duty until you felt they had adjusted their attitude.

Good luck!

I admitively done thing I do not regret doing for a variety of reasons, but in this case this guy seems like he's going full gangster. Trying to prove to himself and others that he's the big and bad. This is a deeper problem than be solved by article 15s and chapters, and he's undoubtedly a collosal bully to his peers. He probably needs to be separated from some enablers and of course everyone must realize that this behavior isn't tollerated.

What rank are you? If you are of the NCO rank the very 1st thing to do would be is to have that young soldier to go to the position of at ease. The soldiers response to that would have been all you needed to gauge that soldiers respect or lack of. He should have been counseled right there on the spot all corrections should be. If that soldier wanted to fight in the light let him cast the first punch at that point you are obligated to protect and defend yourself, that is of course if you are capable of that as an NCO. NCOs of good quality will know what to do with a situation like this, if you do not then perhaps you should not be an NCO.

Cpl Phillip Brame, no I am not an NCO as of yet. However, this particular soldier showed a complete lack of respect for regulation and authority, regardless of rank, so my status as a Noncommissioned Officer is irrelevant. As I mentioned, I made a point to identify myself as someone who outranked this PFC, and therefore should not, at any point, have needed to be an NCO. General Military Authority applies to EVERYONE regardless of rank or NCO status.

Call the military police and have him detained under an article 92 and have his unit pick him up from mp station.
