How do you handle a disrespectful junior soldier that doesn't belong to you?

I recently encountered a junior soldier who wore a patch I didn't recognize who was walking around outside in a VERY ate-up uniform. I showed him my ID card and identified myself and explained to him where he was wrong and asked him to correct the deficiencies. At which point, the soldier told me to go f*** myself and then tried to fight me. Now, the grunt in me got really excited and couldn't wait to wall-to-wall this young soldier, but the professional in me simply wouldn't allow it. So I asked what unit the soldier belonged to, to which he responded "To your f***ing mama, b****." Now RP Leaders, how would you suggest I go about rectifying this situation, or should I simply leave it be and let the Karma catch up with him?
**ADMIN NOTE** I still have not been able to find the patch and it's corresponding unit, so I have no way of finding this soldier's Command.

Honestly, it sounds like you encountered a dependent with a penchant for trolling.

I think I would let the man atack me and defend myself, then, when he is subdued, I'd call the local PD and have him arrested for assault or at the very least public affray. Then his tune will change really quickly, stolen valor or not.

Not a junior soldier, but the Colonels wife. She thought she wore her husbands rank.
She came out to drive a tank. We filled the turret race with water, oil, and other unpleasantries. As she was driving the commander yelled “emergency stop” the contents of the turret race went all over her, soaking her to the skin.

Depending on your rank has alot to do with how you should react. Me as a srnco try to find out his unit turn it over to the 1sg let him deal with. But if I was below the rank of sgt I would have beaten his ass.

Well in all honesty, you really can't do much due to the fact that you cannot identify his unit, the most you can't really do is call around with the information that you have his E-grade and name and see if any units have anyone there that corresponds with what info you have and make a complaint but I would honestly let it go, if that's the way this soldier is the unit may not be any better.

WOW, times have changed when a "real" Soldier would even go there...talk like that to anyone. We are so trained to maintain our professional status and manners I don't care who you are. I'm still like this and always will be. So I'm wondering if this "person" truly was a soldier ....ever a soldier or what?! Cause we just don't act like this even with PTS(D) and I have that....

Me personally, I would not pass the buck. Here is an example of what happen a couple of years ago that I felt needed to be taken care of: Yes, I saw a US Soldier on a porn site because it was brought to my attention by a guy I knew and no...I am not making this up. I was shocked because this Soldier was doing something very wrong and IN UNIFORM and with his Unit in the background. So I took pictures of him with his dang name tag and Unit Crest and everything....I went through the chain of Command and we ended up finding him in Alaska. His Commander was not to happy....My point is that we are all responsible for each other and nip it in the butt right then and there and do so as professional as possible. If you don't do it who will? We are a "Team" aren't we? That "Jr" Soldier and or whomever otherwise will feel like they can just get away with it and or feel that no one actually cares. If and when one of my Troops acted out I wanted someone to hold them responsible and I certainly didn't care who or what Unit/Platoon or whatever they came from....as long as it was addressed and that Soldier have better told them where they came from so I was contacted. Then I could be having that nice little chat with them later on....

I am retired now, but for the future you might try calling the MPs, who could legally get that information from the soldier without you having to assault him. Stick around for the MPs to arrive, and if the individual attempted to leave, note their direction of travel and if leaving in a vehicle, get the license number. With a license number you can notify the Provost Marshall's office, explain what happened and ask if they could contact the individual's chain of command and pass on your phone number to contact you at their earliest convenience. I have done this in the past and the individual's SGM contacted me and reassured me that corrective action was being administered.
