I recently encountered a junior soldier who wore a patch I didn't recognize who was walking around outside in a VERY ate-up uniform. I showed him my ID card and identified myself and explained to him where he was wrong and asked him to correct the deficiencies. At which point, the soldier told me to go f*** myself and then tried to fight me. Now, the grunt in me got really excited and couldn't wait to wall-to-wall this young soldier, but the professional in me simply wouldn't allow it. So I asked what unit the soldier belonged to, to which he responded "To your f***ing mama, b****." Now RP Leaders, how would you suggest I go about rectifying this situation, or should I simply leave it be and let the Karma catch up with him?

**ADMIN NOTE** I still have not been able to find the patch and it's corresponding unit, so I have no way of finding this soldier's Command.

o I would have found the unit u could have even got his last name and do a search on AKO and narrowed down the person or research the patch ..i understand your issue not wanting to wall to wall his dumb A but that is what you get in today's service .. they discipline and respect left about 10 years ago

The individual was probably Reservist or NG.. they tend to have the air of IDGAF more than any and their unit patches are not as easy to identify.. just like they said.. try to take a pic may he the best thing you could do..

You didn’t say if you are on a military installation at the time. First you should have ordered him to come to attention and give you his name, ID number and unit. If he responded as before get your cellphone out and call the Provost Martial or nearest MP station. He should have been detained for being out of uniform and for insubordination. After you give your statement it’s out of you hands

I have encountered many with patches I didn't recognize, however I found many of them were national guard or reserve. I have also encountered ex soldiers who still wore their uniforms around town. I think you may have confronted the latter.

First off, if you are an NCO/SNCO every Junior "soldier" should belong to you especially when correcting a deficiency as serious as disrespect. Every NCO/SNCO/Officer is tasked with maintaining the good order and discipline of whatever branch of service they represent. They are obligated and have the responsibility to take charge of any situation that threatens the good order and discipline of their service or the military in general especial when it comes to junior troops. As a retired Marine, I guess I don't get this relegating that responsibility to the unit or section leadership. If this guy was truly a soldier and he told me to go f*** myself, my new mission in life would be to ensure he did not remain a soldier in MY Army. Once identified, I would charge him then run it through his chain of command. Is that not the way it works in the Army? Hoping that Karma would catch up to him only gives that behavior a foot hold and allows that cancer to spread. With that said, short of taking this guy out, I'm not sure what you could have done other than to document via a picture and then try to identify him later. This situation would have been much easier to handle on base, if indeed he was a soldier, no? This is one of the reasons Marines do not allow Battle Dress Uniforms/Cammies to be worn outside Military installations.

Depends honestly how polite you were doesn’t it? Being corrected is dicey ground.
