Same way you should do in Military. By example. You can force, coerce, threaten, etc. but that only works for a very short time and gets the people to feel bitter and resentful.
Share praise, keep ass chewing private. Own the process with the workers, even if you did it by yourself. They will work harder for you than if you use their work to advance yourself.
Just my $0.02

Great advice especially for those of us who are still learning to be a leader still in the military.

Here you go with these great open-minded questions again.
Stay humble.
Help and share info whenever I can.
Listen to understand, not simply to respond.
Hold myself to a higher standard.
Don't judge for I don't know everything about someone's decision at any point and time.
What about you, SPC Margaret Higgins ?

THANK You, for the compliment, Sergeant SGT (Join to see)!
I love that you are a humble leader.
I love that you help out.
I love that you Listen; and not just to respond.
I am very proud of you, Sergeant, for holding yourself to a higher standard.
And judging, to my way of believing, is God's job; not ours. GOOD for YOU on that score as well!
As for me? Well, let's see:
(1) I try to inspire; by example.
(2) I try to understand and be compassionate- to help people with my love.
(3) I try to be as knowledgeable and as accurate as I Possibly can: when helping people with facts; and with my research/knowledge.
(4) I try to be as empathetic/sympathetic as I can be.
(5) I try to call people by their first name (that is if I know them: or if online, if I've spoken with them before...or even in some cases if I have not spoken with them before- provided they don't out rank me).
(6) Most of all, I rely on God to work through me: to help people....and to live my life.
Hope this helps, Sergeant!
Thanks for asking!
-With My Kindest and Warmest Regards, Margaret
