It is a way of life.
Doing the right thing is as much a conscious decision as doing the wrong thing.

Great post. We live them out through our interactions with others and most importantly that we uphold them even when no one else is looking.

Just by doing the right thing, it is fairly easy and doesn't take a genius to know right form wrong. I love mentoring junior soldiers. I honor my country by continuing to serve. And I would gladly give my life for my brothers and sisters in arms.

Just do the things you know you are supposed to do, any you'll pretty much be living up to the standard. Do the right thing, And put faith in your battle buddies.

I don't like to call the Army Values I call them values. Everyone is supposed to bring that kind of ethics from Home. Living by this values is a commitment, is self discipline. Is like acting the way your family be proud of you.

I agree SFC Ramos, They are not just Army values, but basic guidelines that everyone should have instilled in them. From childhood, we are taught right from wrong and many of us grow up knowing the difference. It is when we do something that we know isn't right, and we hear that little voice in the back of our heads telling us to stop and think about it for a few minutes. Some of us listen, and some of us don't. Some of us grow out of the immaturity, and some do not.

True story time. I have been out of the Army for years and have been in the corporate world for the last 5.
You know the motivational posters they have posted on the wall (The ones that say, 'SUCCESS, Is not archived, it is kissing the right ass.' or whatever bullshit saying some idiot came up with). I hate them. When I say I hate them...I mean..if I could set the office on fire to just to burn them to the ground I would. My boss thinks somebody is going to walk by, read that bullshit and a light is go on and he is going to become super employee. I have one right outside my office (Something about "Teamwork". Yeah right! Ever been in a firefight? Now that is teamwork!). I have begged him to take it down. No such luck.
My boss and I are friends, we golf together and eat lunch together on a regular basis. So this will not get me fired, but I am serious about how much I can't stand them.
So every time I leave out of my office I tape up the Army Values over top of it. It will make it about a week or two and then it comes down. I just put another one up. We have been at it for about 4 months now. The Army Values goes back up because it has relevance even in the corporate world. Not like some weak ass saying.

SPC(P) (Join to see) I wish I had asked many of the questions that I have seen in your posts. I could have avoided quite a few mistakes and made better choices had I had a tool like RP with support.
That being said, living the Army values isn't anything that should be hard. If you try and be a good and genuine person, you already embody these values. The Army focuses on these to create a standard but they are nothing really off the wall.

SGT William Howell
SGT David T. I think the same with the 10 Commandments as I do with the Army Values. They are a great bunch of rules to live your life by. You don't have to be religious or a soldier for them to be a guide to a good moral compass.

SGT David T.
SGT William Howell - If you look at it the Commandments (the ones dealing with human to human interactions) and the Army values are basically saying the same message about being good and genuine people.

The sad thing is that the Army had to develop these "values" to teach people. This is the kind of stuff you were suppose to learn growing up, if not from a parent from a mentor.

SPC(P) (Join to see) The other comments are pretty much spot-on. You are headed in the right direction by looking for answers from mentors that have the experience and knowledge.Keep at it.
