Not hard. Spouse needs to take NY real estate classes and get a business license. Best to connect with a firm first

Check online with the New York State Real estate Commission on education requirements.
Most residential real estate companies offer training for free (if the person agrees to work for them) or for a nominal fee, (under $500). Once the educational requirement is met, there is a state test one must take. Most residential real estate firms (the bigger ones) have someone in house who actively recruits new sales agents. They can offer specific details and help with licensure. Consider working with one of the bigger firms as they usually have better training for new agrents or even offer teaming opportunities with an experienced agent. Teaming can help accelerate cask flow and experience.
Good luck, I've been a commercial broker since leaving the service in 1979, great field and it transfers well with their sponsor.
