If you look to your left and look to your right and ask those people who have nothing to do with career counseling, you'll get the answers you received.
Your best option is to talk your/his career counselor/retention 1SG, SGM/CSM, even possibly a recruiter at your local recruiting station.
MAJ Daren Walker showed to have provided some good information.
Hope you find the right info for your husband. Hooah!

Roger.
Retention advised him dropping into the IRR and coming back in.
Sounds like a lot just to go active duty :/

It definitely is I have a lot of buddies who went reserves and want to come back it’s a lengthy process typically that’s why they usually advise people to just get out and come back in the initial enlistment process is much easier SSG (Join to see)

Why would they tell him he can't? Does it matter to him if he is Infantry Marine or Infantry Army? He isn't over the age (I believe there is an age limit)?

Prior Service Business rules and plus our reserve unit JUST paid for him to go to reclass school.
He went based on 100 people told him he couldn’t go Active Infantry.
I spoke to our Retention NCO today and he said that he has options. It’s just all dependent on whether our unit will sign the release or not.
Lot of leg work but at the end of the day - suppose it all works out - it will be worth it for him. I’d just hate to see him lose rank.

SSG (Join to see) - Yes, I agree. It would be hard for him if he lost his rank. We'll be praying things go his way, we need Infantry Soldiers.
