I am new to the Reserves and I am on ADOS orders for 26 days. The two questions I have are 1) do I rate BAH and 2) should I expect to be paid on the 1st and 15th like active (ie when should I throw up a red star cluster about not getting paid)?

Turn in a copy of your orders to your S1 rep and/or your civilian DOD pay and benefits clerk ( If you work at BN, BDE, RSG or ESC) immediately. That way it is put in the system and you will probably be paid at the end of your 26-day orders. You get BAH type 2 since your orders are less than 30 days.
I worked at an RSG Regional Support Group/BDE and later at an ESC Expeditionary Support Command/1 Star Command and I went on 25-day and 15-day orders before I retired last December. I gave them the copy and I then had someone in my Command (like the HHC Commander) sign off on my orders and returned to the pay clerks to make sure my pay was not clawed back a month later. That is what will happen if you do not get it signed off. You will see your LES on MYPAY a few days before your orders are complete. If you need an advance due to a hardship, talk to those DOD people who work with the S1. I have been out since 1 Jan 22 and I forgot the positions of the full-time DOD civilians who process pay. .

In the reserve components, orders shorter than 8 days can only be processed on the last day.
Orders longer than 8 days must be processed for pay on the first and last day.
All orders under 30 days include BAH RCT (type 2 for old timers).
All orders 30 days and longer are full BAH.
In the reserve components, pay is processed at company/unit level by a fulltimer.
For reserve pay, there are 1-2 pay runs and DFAS every week.
The cutoff at DFAS for midmonth and EoM are a few days prior, depending on the start of the orders, you could see both.
An LES is generated when processed. If you haven't seen your first LES 8-10 days into an order, your unit fulltimer didn't process your pay on time.
