I am aware of the Reserve enlistment requirement, do you enter as an E-1? or do you have an equivalent rank to the GS level you are at as an ART? The position I am curious about is a GS-7 position. Do you address enlisted and officers by rank structure while as an ART out of common courtesy? or are you on a first name basis? Do you do the same job you do as a GS-7 when you are on weekend drills and AT? Is there a tech school requirement even if you have the skills to do the job?

I went ART after 4 years of AD. As a reservist I was a SSgt my civilian grade started as a GS5. AS I progressed in civilian life my Reserve rank could only go up after GS7 TO TSgt. I did not have to compete with other Reservists for promotion due to Civilian and Military being tied together. Being Security Police, we had to wear the military uniform and abide by all customs and courtesy associated with the uniform. I did the same job in the reserves as I did as a Civilian.

I wasn’t an ART while in, but as I remember, the job was the same both civilian and military. When they are performing their ART duties they are called by first name if that is what they want. In uniform it’s Rank and Name.

Your job on reserve weekend your rank is what you get paid for. During the week you get paid whatever you pay grade is. Hourly or salary
