How does your Commander's performance on their PT test influence your opinion of them?

Do you think more or less of a commander if they get the maximum score possible on their APFT (or whatever test your respective service takes)? During my enlisted days I don't think I ever had a commander who was a PT stud. If I had a commander who couldn't pass a PT test I might honestly think less of them, but I don't know if they really need to blow it out of the water. Thoughts?

I had several commanders that could and did max the 18yr old AFPT requirements- it was maind blowing because after he tested each event- he would walk around and pump up everybody else testing. They always led from the front- and we would follow them to Hell to get ice-water, if that was the mission. Of course it was 82nd/Rangers.

Doesn't really matter does it?.. but?... the STANDARD .... is EXACTLY THAT!... the standard requirement tells ALL OF US.... we pass this test, or we do it all over again... never was a big PT fan... but we all ran and did our daily PT cuz it was REQUIRED, fellas... plus?... tell tale SIGN that you WERENT doing it?... your uniforms DIDNT FIT!!!!... HOOAH?.... I was a 92-G30... and being a FOOD SERVICE SERGEANT, I made it my commitment to look good in my uniforms!... so long story short... we PT'd with our CO's and our respective units.... and that was that!... didn't think any more or LESS of someone if they had a hard time with it!.....and my career has been over for almost 12 years now...so?... I still stay in decent shape.... little molded over, but I'm still good to go, HOOAH!!!... SSG Mike Raysses, USAR-Ret...

During OCS, we had to double time every where we went. Our LTs were right there.

Every CO and officers in the two units I served in were beasts when it came to PT and tests. I would think less of them if they failed. Then again, I had no business with dealings with officers. Whatever my Plt Sgt said it was done.

They only need to pass. My opinion of my CO would be based more on how he performs as a leader and decision maker.

I had several great O's who as LTC's, had no problem maxing the 18 yr group PT test. After he did his station, he would encourage everybody else. We loved him, if I had any O to fail or not exceed the minimums I would have very little respect for them.

never worried about my commanders passing, only myself and soldiers under me,maybe in a few years or if you stay in long enough you will see the toll military life can have on your body, not making excuses, but the focus should be on yourself first.

I was never a PT Stud, but always did my best, normally was in the low to mid 270 range. But there is a PT Standard for a REASON, and as far as I was concerned, 181, exceeds the standard, and had several an arguement with platoon and first sergeants about putting that blurb in counseling, and on NCOERs. Had a Squad leader once, he was a PT Stud, but could NOT for the life of him perform his job, and failed several SQTs, when they still had them. Was deployed once in central america, I completed each of my project sites, while he was still trying to even accomplish his first. The Platoon Sergeant came to me to fix it, I told him only under one condition, in that my Squad Leader was no where on the project site, he agreed, and I finished his project in just over 10 days. The thing is, He went on to become a CSM, and didn't know crap. Just a PT stud....
