Do you think more or less of a commander if they get the maximum score possible on their APFT (or whatever test your respective service takes)? During my enlisted days I don't think I ever had a commander who was a PT stud. If I had a commander who couldn't pass a PT test I might honestly think less of them, but I don't know if they really need to blow it out of the water. Thoughts?

Overall, I think the soldiers will make their jokes and tall their trash but at the end of the day, if you are a good leader, your apft score is irrelevant. If your soldiers think you're a sbag then they will use your apft score as ammo for their already burning fire. Just be a good leader and none of that matters.

If my commander can run then there was never a reason I shouldn't be able to too it does boost moral and if he couldn't then they seemed lazy and scary cause this lazy person is in charge

I don't really care. Most of them are more than twice my age and it's not really the officers job to be great at pt it's ours. Even then I'm not so great either.

I would say this is a tricky question. A fail would be a shock for sure. However, it depends on the job. If you have a highly physical job, then one counts a little more on your physical ability. Some things that are missed in Soldier functional fitness include things like ruck marching or sprinting. Can you evade fire, carry your load and keep up, can you drag another Soldier from fire. There is really a whole lot to it. I have seen super tiny, skinny folks max out PT. Do I think they could drag me in full gear from a burning helicopter-I have my doubts. As far as how I view a commander, it comes down to how they take hold of the company, keep the crazies in check and battalion within reason, how they support the situation is key. I am not saying be hard or be soft- what I truly enjoy is someone that gets the facts before handling something and addressing whatever it may be like a reasonable person. This may be telling the troops to simmer down, fighting battalion on something crazy, doling out a fair punishment in a respectful way or snatching up a subordinate thatnis getting out of control. I look for well rounded and really don’t care what kind of meathead they are or aren’t.
