How does your Commander's performance on their PT test influence your opinion of them?

Do you think more or less of a commander if they get the maximum score possible on their APFT (or whatever test your respective service takes)? During my enlisted days I don't think I ever had a commander who was a PT stud. If I had a commander who couldn't pass a PT test I might honestly think less of them, but I don't know if they really need to blow it out of the water. Thoughts?

Max? I don't really care about that, but the score had at least be respectable. I don't expect (or want) my CO to be perfect, but I do expect him to put forth the effort he expects from us.

Like many others, I never gave it a second thought - unless they either failed an event/body fat or looked like they couldn’t make tape. My judgement of my commanders was always based on their actions and their interactions with the Soldiers they led. Now I’m a retired SFC and working as a GS 14 for DOJ. I have much less information with which to form an opinion, but the simple truth stands - a Soldier struggling to fit into his uniform will initially be viewed poorly... even if the PT stud next to him is a turd when it comes to duty performance.

I was never a PT stud, I got average performance, but as an officer you are held to a higher standard. I feel this should be held true across all standards. Not fit enough to pass the test? Not fit enough to lead in my opinion...

It never did. I agree with the other answers, that all that really matters is that he/she passes and does a good job as commander. Maxing a PT test is pretty much meaningless, as the only thing that goes on the OER is pass/fail.

I would rather have a Commander fail with integrity than some I have seen max it in a questionable manner. I want to see the standard met. If you can do more, so be it. If you get selected to attend a course that is physically demanding, you are not going to get through it with a 180. We should always encourage our Soldiers to do their very best at every test, and if a leader, be the first to get down and knock them out in front of your command. Integrity is key!

It’s all about enforcing standards. If a commander couldn’t pass and APFT then how can they put troop out of the Army for not passing one or busting tape if they bust tape. It’s all about being fair and if you can’t meet the standard you are e enforcing then how can you call your self a commader.

My personal opinion is that the commander needs to set the example for every single aspect of military life. Officers and NCOs don’t need to max pfts, but under no circumstances should they be getting failing or marginal scores.

I've always been told and view it myself as a measure of how much a soldier cares and is involved. It doesn't account for everything, but it's a good quick benchmark assessment. For an officer, we are taught to lead by example, so I feel we should push ourselves if we expect it from our Soldiers. High APFT has been a helpful tool for me, but situations and styles are always different.
