I didn't like the job, hated the hours, but made E-7 right at the 9 year mark. Drill was the only special thing I had done. On the trail 82-84.

I loved it mainly because I enjoyed watching the transition Soldiers made from civilian to military. It was also a good feeling seeing them again and seeing all the ones that listened to my words of wisdom make Sergeant and doing good things. All won't listen, but I did it for the few that did. Some of them should be SFC now. I only used corrective training to do just that re-train. I didn't abuse my authority and as an OSUT DS I actually did PT sessions with them. I thought it showed them teamwork. A few times I caught them doing PT on their own so I would just leave the bay! So rewarding!!

I was one of those soldiers that did PT on their own MSG. My battles were always afraid the DS would come out and make us all do what I was doing lol

It was awesome! I was promoted during my time on the trail. Things sucked at times... but as long as my mind was in the game and my team was supportive of each other and the overall mission- it was easier to get through. That’s legitimately 99% of it all. Right mindset and a solid team/command team make or break most situations.
