Due to some recent self reflection and thought on my part, I have decided I may want to change my MOS at some point in the near future, switching from a 91B to 11B or a 19D. How hard is it for a soldier in the National Guard to change MOS and when would be the best time, before or on my ETS date for example.

Most states are more than willing to add reclass as a condition for your extension.
Tell your AGR and your chain of command, use a real recruiter (RRNCO) who will find a vacancy for you to transfer and reclass for your extension.
Your extension window starts 365 days before your ETS, and the sooner you start this, the better the results.

I concur cause you can negotiate that into your contract to re-enlist but if you want to go active just wait

Is going active an option? I've always been told by almost every NCO in my unit that once you go guard it is almost impossible to transfer

SPC(P) (Join to see) - Not impossible just poo-pooed by NG and AD. They will both put you through the ringer but it can be done and don't forget about fun at MEPS. Just be ready to dance.

SPC(P) (Join to see) it's not at all impossible. I was a NG transfer to AD. It's just upon your unit to sign your conditional release. Some will approve it and some won't. Or you can just wait till you're about to ETS and go see an AD recruiter.

Not that difficult, you can reenlist for it or you can find a unit with a slot for your grade in the MOS you want and start a transfer. The Guard usually has MOS re-class Schools that you can do on AT orders.

It all depends on need of the Army and if there are slots available.
