I am a 92f, in the National Guard. We have just completed a class on the M107 Tank Rack Module. At this time, units are being issued these TRMs. I would like to hear some feed back on how it has changed fueling operations with in your unit. It seems to me it significantly degrades operations because it is not as mobile.

https://fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/wsh2012/248.pdf By the looks of this PDF you should have HEMIT's or PLS. Nothing wrong with that.

What is on the PLS is not what we have trained on. M107 is on the trailer though. We have M978s, but some units are losing the M978s and receiving PLS with M107. The M107 needs a power source and only has a 20 gpm pump. The M978 gpm capacity is much greater.

I learned about these at ALC a couple years ago and was really excited about the idea at first. My unit is supposed to get them soon. Since we just can’t keep up with our tanks during gunnery we have to bulk draw almost every day with our HEMMTs.
At JRTC this last summer I got to work with the Illinois Guard and see the TRM in action. I was not impressed. I guess you have to basically gravity feed into your truck or slave an aux pump at like 3-4 gallons/min. They had a setup to create more vacuum on the recirc, but that thing dumped about a gallon of fuel every time they used it. They told me they wished they had 969s.
How has the system worked for anyone else? My unit has asked me for thoughts, and so far I’ve advised we look for other alternatives. I like the old 5Ks, but I have to wagon train with an armor/scout unit, so I need the x-country capability of a HEMMT, but I need more capacity with fewer operators. I also have a strong bias against using trailers with HEMMT fuelers, something about it makes me uneasy. Has anyone been able to make the TRM work effectively for your unit? I need to be able to move 2-3K gallons of fuel a day when we’re moving.

I think as your primary fuel truck. That's a pretty dumb idea. It's a great piece of equipment we use them as a stationary refuel point when in the field and it comes in handy while we use the hemmtt as our primary logpak vehicle

I was really only a fueler on paper both deployments I was a 240 gunner on a QRF and PSD team for the Battalion Commander...my limited scope of fueling was working with HEMTT trucks

Not a huge fan of the TRM. Transportation of the vehicle is a pain, plus it takes forever to fill up anything. I suppose youll probably only be filling up side tanks so it shouldn't be that much of an issue. Im AD in a fueler platoon. We've got HEMTTs and tankers. HEMTTS are my personal favorite.

Ultimately it comes down to what you’re fueling ... it can be very useful but the massive pump is over kill in most operations... as far as mobility.. it is an amazing “hook and go” operation for setting up massive fuel sites down range... keeping in mind it is just temporary anyways... overal it isnt too bad but not a lot of uses in my opinion

I never got the chance to see these, but keep in mind costs come into play. depending on the unit, and units supported, it may be fine. Is something that can be configured for a trailer or 5 ton? If so what does your MTOE state your are supposed to have with it?

Thanks Chief. The Brigade is changing the MTOE. Luckily my company is keeping 2 M978. We are losing 1. Other companies within the Brigade, will make the change over to M107. Just want to know what to expect for over summer training when we will be using the equipment.
