I just reenlisted after 17 years out, of course I'm required to repeat BCT. I'm wondering, How is BCT for prior service at Fort Leonad Wood, MO? Thanks in advance.

BCT was different for me. I was Navy from 2007-2015 and I came back in to the service and joined the Army in 2019. I was treated like a trainee but was told not to give any training so that the new recruits can learn and apply on their own. After I graduated BCT and went to AIT, I was considered a MOS-T and was treated differently than the other trainees and had more privileges. While in BCT, though, you get treated as an E-1 and may or may not wear your rank (depends on the DS). I just flew under the radar, minded my own business, and did what I was told to do. I don’t think they have the shark attack anymore and a lot of things has changed since I’ve graduated in 2019.

I wasn't PS but wanted to prep you for the weather of Fort lostinthewoods Misery. Went in 2002 OSUT
If you go in June like I did, prepare for extremely humid weather and nonstop sweating, nights are freezing and you will start to worship BOB (big orange ball / the sun LOL).
Winters close to October is just freezing and extremely windy like the plains.
Bugs like the range horse flies will bite you, chiggers galore, and FTX watch out for bushmasters and all kinds of critters. Make a water trench around your shelter half and poncho over on top before sleeping. Bring lots of bug spray.
It was fun and loved every minute of it.

Prior Service, years later coming back? | RallyPoint
Im curious how many service members were out for a number of years and then went back in. I've met some who were out for as many as 8 years and then reenlisted after 9/11.

As a drill there I didn't and wouldn't give any special treatment, favorable or negative toward prior service. After 17yrs out go in the same as last time. Mouth shut, right place right time and proper uniform. A lot has changed since you were there I'm sure you will be just fine.

Just got done with ait as prior service 2 weeks ago. At basic training the drill sergeants are more lenient and talk to you with respect. You just okay along with the games like getting “smoked” then for AIT you’re separated from the trainees. Mos-t will be in separate barracks and when you go to class you just sit in the back while the trainees go and do the army sing and class motto then the class starts. It also depends on your company and mos. I went to bravo 84 chem and had some cool drill sergeants. Idk how it is for 88m or engineers.
