We lived on post when there and then off post when I retired. Always better of post.
All I can say about the MP Unit is they are good giving tickets as I recall. If you like to hunt and fish a great place to be.

That tends to not be a problem if you don't break the law.

In all honestly, I live on post and there is nothing wrong with it. Depends on what housing you choose to get. I actually like Fort Riley and all the outdoors events that my family does. Only dislike that I have is the wind.

How is the MP unit at Ft. Riley? Is it better to live on or off post?

I live in Junction City and right now there is a surplus of housing both on and off post. Junction City isnt the best nor the worst place to live - Manhattan is better, close to Kansas State University, a larger city with more options for eating, shopping and recreation.

Not sure what they are like now but in the 90's they were pretty strict and enforced rules no matter who you were. As far as housing, some of them were new when we were there so not sure how much they have changed since. I didn't live on post, but had friends that did and it was a nightmare for them.

Living off post was much easier, didn't have to deal with the MPs, but city or county cops depending on where you live. Morning traffic going on post could be a pain due to PT schedule but if you time it just right you won't have to worry about that. Plus there are back roads too.

Up on the hill is where it gets windy as someone mentioned. Other than that you have your seasons live everywhere else. Just make it worth your time to find things you and your family will like to do do. There is plenty for everyone to enjoy something

I have no recollection of the MP's but I do remember Chiggers!! I remember riding home to Dwight on my bike in 110 degrees. I remember driving to church in Parker at -20... but the fishing was great and well, it was awhile ago, 1980-81. Did see Styx Play Grand Illusion in Witchita. Radio played the album commercial free all the way home... Good luck at Ft. Riley.

Don't know about the MP unit, but I enjoyed living off post after I got married. Had to get in early to beat the morning PT rush, but that was the only downside I saw.
