I've heard that unless you're already 68W qualified its not possible. Anyone have any knowledge if this is true?

How likely is it to find the car you want on a used car lot?
Well, 68W is the second largest MOS so you might have a chance of finding a school seat within a year or so

SFC Boyd is correct as a prior Army Recruiter I put a few prior service back in as 68W! Like he said the training seat might have a year wait might be the only catch!

Shouldn’t be too difficult, had a few prior service in my class, one was a SSG from civil affairs, others were prior Marines and other MOSs, it’s common to reenlist as a 68W just might take a little time for a seat to open.

Generally, the only MOSs offered are those listed on the "business rules" based on rank. Airborne helps some, but E5 and above have usually less options. Prior service is great for going USAR but pulls little leeway for RA. Question: are you tabbed( 18 or ranger)? High awards plays some but ask the recruiter what's on the business rules for PS E4.

I personally had 9 prior enlisted in my AIT. Granded that was 2018 and 2 were ranger scroll, but none the less 7 others were original infantry, S1,S6 and 25U....

This wouldn't do much good unless you were female. Most females get their pick of everything and most of the males end up going to combat units.

Several things come into play such as your rank and prior service business rules. E-4 and below you have a shot depending on needs of the Army. E-5 last I checked it was not open, E-6 it wasn't open either. They were allowing E-5 and E-6 reclass as it was on the in and out calls but not prior service business rules. It changes so often though your best bet is to go to a recruiter and have them pull up prior service business rules. That's not a guarantee that training seats will be available for every job on that list when you go to MEPS but at least you'll know your possible options.

We had several prior enlisted in our class about an year ago.
68W they have a class starting every 2-3 months at FT sam, They have about 5 companies each usually takes in excess of 300. We had lots of national guard and reserves in our class though. So you dont to have to worry about re- enlisting into 68W as there are plethora of spots available usually.

It’s very likely because it’s such a large MOS and to top it off promotion points are so low. So clearly they aren’t over strength. Good luck!
