How likely is it that I could re-enlist to go from a cadre job at Fort Benning to another unit as a career counselor?

Was curious of how likely it would be to go from a cadre job at benning with the 198th MCOE to re-enlisting to stay at benning and go to another unit there/career counselor for the cav unit there

As a junior and NCO it’s very possible, though there will need to be a valid line number for your rank and MOS at the gaining unit.
And not visible to you, but Branch will need to look at critical shortages across the entire force and decide if moving you to another post that has zero of your rank an MOS to fill at least 1 of 5 authorized spots at a new duty station is better than leaving you at Benning to to fill the 5th of 5 authorized spots. EDIT: A: voice to txt typos corrected, B: numbers are just for example use. The point is, just because there is an a open spot for your rank and MOS on Benning does not mean its the highest priority fill.
There could be a BDE deploying that has NO career counselor and that is a critical fill position so off you go...

Is there a Cav unit there? I was only aware of the 1/28 Infantry unit, unless you're referring to some type of Cav training unit.
But, very possible as long as there is a slot available and you're not asking to go from TDA to TDA assignment.

SFC (Join to see)
CW3 (Join to see) but isn't that all schools? I meant is there any Cav MTOE units. I ask because he can reenlist to go to an MTOE unit, but TDA to TDA is prohibited.

SFC (Join to see) I left Benning in 2013, but it was all TDA after 3rd Brigade was nixed. 1st SFAB is there, but I’m not sure there breakdown for Career Councilors are.

CW3 (Join to see) I just learned a few months ago that they have 1-28 which is an MTOE unit that's what's left over of 3ID. But that's about it for the conventional stuff.

Are they hurting for cadre? Is the MOS you hold under strength? Is there a need for Career Counselors or are they a dime a dozen? How long have you been stateside? How long since you last deployed? The answers to these questions will give you answers to your questions.
Easier answer, talk to YOUR career counselor and see what help they are and what information they can give you. Their job is to keep you in the Army, not so much in any particular job.

Now that you reworded your question I understand what you're asking.
You can't reenlist to become a Career Counselor.
If you want to become a Career Counselor you will need to serve as a retention NCO and if you do well, your Career Counselor can recommend you. If there is an opening on post, the post will pay for you to go TDY and return to school. Upon your return you'll take over a unit on post. If there's no opening, you'll go TDY enroute to your next duty station. Make sure you understand that this is not a duty assignment like Drill or Recruiter, this is an actual permanent MOS.
Also, you'll have to be recommended, apply, and be approved prior to pinning SSG.

It's possible. I don't recommend it though. Not sure why, but Benning loves telling people that TDA to TDA is good for you. If you talk to branch, it is not. And unless you're going to reclass to a career counselor, you will he setting yourself up for failure as a 11B. You'll get promoted to SSG sometime and not have any idea how to do your job as a Squad Leader because you've been out of the game for so long. I've seen it several times and it's never fun to watch that train wreck. It's your future though so good luck.

Anything is possible. However, why would you want to go back to back outside of your MOS. If your goal is to become and remain a Career Counselor then go for it. I have had a couple of close friends do very well in this role, achieving SGM. Do your homework, speak with a senior Counselor to get a solid picture of what life looks like over there. Thank you for your service.
