I want to commission as an officer in the USMC. I have 6 credit hours left to complete my degree and will end with around a low GPA ~2.7. My PT scores will be exceptional; I currently hold ~13:00 minutes for my 2-mile run with no specific training, so I can assume I will shave time off in the coming months.

I’m worried about my GPA. If I were to enlist, how long after enlisting would I have to wait to apply to become an officer? Would enlisting and then applying really make that big of a difference on the commitee?

Thank you all in advance for the replies.

Talk to an OSO. The experience gained from a few years enlisted will help you become a well-rounded officer. It will also cost you some time, so it's a tradeoff. OCS and TBS will ensure you have the basics to serve as an officer. Serving as enlisted will give you the practical application and general knowledge. It's your call. Just do your best and good luck.

OCS in the Corps is for any individual who is not in another commissioning program. I'd talk to your local OSO through your recruiter before I did anything

Were you in ROTC? I thought OCS was only for enlisted. What is your other option?

Unlike the other United States military services, the majority of Marine Corps officers complete OCS to earn a commission; the exceptions are midshipmen from the United States Naval Academy , limited duty officers, and inter-service transfers. The OCS attrition rate is 30–50%. It is located at Marine Corps Base Quantico. (Wikipedia)

CWO3 (Join to see) - Didn’t know that. I went University of Mississippi back in the late ‘70’s. We had Army, Air Force, and Navy ROTC - a bunch of the Navy guys commissioned into the Marines.

CPT Don Kemp - Only the Canoe U. bubbas (USNA), escape OCS. Every officer goes through TBS (The Basic School) before MOS training. The Infantry guys stay at Quantico after TBS and go through IOC (Infantry Officer Course). Both TBS and IOC are located at a remote camp aboard Quantico, near the FBI Academy. They may later get a seat at Benning for advanced Infantry training as well as other Army courses. Quotas are limited though. Airborne, Ranger and lots of other schools organic and external to USMC. Best wishes.

"Depending on the course, Officer Candidates go through either a 10-week (PLC Combined/OCC), or two 6-week courses (PLC) over separate summers, designed primarily to screen and evaluate candidates' fitness to lead Marines by placing them in leadership positions in a stressful environment. The 10-week course only happens after a candidate's junior year of college. Students are evaluated during 2–3 day garrison command billets at the company and platoon level, and squad and fire-team level tactical billets during field exercises." (Wikipedia)
