I’m coming back onto active duty from the guard and I hold both 88m and 11b. I was most recently 11b and that’s what I wanted to stay but Uncle Sam had other plans for me. The only way I could keep my rank was if I took my old mos. so do I have to wait for my reenlistment window or can I switch before that. I hated being a truck driver.

Ok, returning to Regular Army is based on USAREC’s business rules. A document published 3 or 4 times a year based on the Army’s needs at the moment; recruiters cannot deviate from it. As a prior service your options are guided thru that document. Now the fun part... the Army will attempt to access you in your qualified MOS so they don’t have to spend money on you. If there is not a high demand for it then an offer to reclassify is in place. Also, the business rules dictate accession rank based on a varied of criteria. Regarding MOS, the first option will be on whatever you trained while in the Regular Army; for some unholy reasons MOS awarded thru the Reserve Component School System is very seldom recognized! Don’t ask mye why but that’s how it was during my times. Hopefully it changed.

Have to wait, unless 11B is shorter than 88M

SGT Robert Cupp: I am so sorry you hated being a truck driver. I would Not take a lower rank; if I were you. I, in my humble opinion, believe that you would regret that. Many prayers for you, Robert.
