Back in March I popped hot for thc at MEPS, I have no record, scored 81 on ASVAB, and owned up to making a dumb mistake a month before MEPS. Now I have turned in what I need and waited the 90 days to start the process to get a waiver for my situation. How long should I expect to get back on the road to enlisting?

UPDATE: I am being sent to MEPS on the 24th of June to get a clean piss, however, my recruiter informed me that it'll be a waiting game for the waivers to open up to get me in. Could happen that day, could happen in 2 years, it's a simple wait!

Since you already popped hot on your visit, even after the waiver runs its course (usually 90 days), take this to heart....MEP DOES NOT HAVE TO GRANT YOU ANOTHER TRY after popping hot. So, chances are if you have not heard anything by now and/or have not received a new appointment for MEPS.....you probably aren't getting in. Choices in life have consequences.

Jay Chan , I'm not going to mince words with you. You say you come from a family of military. You say you wanted this since you were young. You knew full well the Service does not tolerate drug use. So, you decided to piss on the Honor of your family members by doing drugs before shipping off to MEPS? Yes, you told your recruiter what you did...and the recruiter should not have sent you to MEPS with that knowledge...but, what's done is done. Personally, I see no reason why you should be allowed to enlist. You tripped MASSIVELY right at the starting gate. If, by some miracle, you are granted a second visit to MEPS, your urine better be so clean people could wash their hands with it (not that I recommend that, being that I'm Preventive Medicine....but you get my meaning). Also, IF you manage to get back to MEPS and enlist, you best have your six so damn squared away you could drop a pure 20 karat diamond the next time you take a dump.

MOTIVATOR!!! He could turn out to be a rock hard, pipe hitting son of a gun and someday end up being the next SMA...good job in encouraging him. Although he's young and dumb, in many states he did not break the law. This is an easily recoverable gaf on his part, better to get them out of the way now when they "don't" matter.

MEPS is not the deciding authority on waivers, each service has its own policy. First time THC positive at MEPS is a 6 month wait and requires a waiver for the Army. After the 6 month wait has lapsed, the applicant must return to MEPS to retake the DAT. Once a negative result is posted (usually within 1 week), then the waiver can be processed. It is a local waiver and usually only takes a day or two. Faster if the recruiting battalion is desperate to make mission and it is at the end of the recruiting month.

SFC J Fullerton - Good news, my recruiter (after a 90 day wait) is sending me back up to MEPS this upcoming Monday, he says after I piss clean it'll be a matter of waiting for them to open waivers up, then they can send me back for the swear in, and sign!

I believe that people connected with drugs can not admit to the armed forces. Drug abuse is an indicator of a person’s weakness. You can read about it in my essays https://tooly.io/drug-abuse/ I think that you should think about the behavior of your son and what kind of education he receives.

Hi, my name is Destiny and obviously I'm here because I failed my drug test as well and I'm looking for more information. I took a total of 5 drug tests prior to even going to MEPS and ALL of them came back negative. 3 of these tests were given by my recruiter and he stated that they were the extra strong ones that are the same as the ones given at MEPS (they looked identical). I even tested negative THE DAY I went to MEPS because I was a little paranoid and I asked my recruiter to test me again to be sure. When I got to MEPS, Nov. 19th, everything was disorganized and they had none of my information. Even after getting my information there was a lot of mixups. I wasn't able to do anything at all until the next day (11/20). I did medical the entire day. I stayed a 3rd day to take the TAPAS and DLAB (which i passed). I scored 97 on my ASVAB. Did a phone interview for security clearance for MOS 35P. Swore in shortly after. Now here we are, 12 days later (12/02), my recruiter calls me and tells me I tested positive for THC. None of it makes sense. Any updates with your waiver process? I see that this was posted 6 months ago.

How long does a drug waiver take to get approved, and how soon can I get back to MEPS?

Not to be discouraging coming up hot is not a minor infraction. There are many enlisted who are clean. Yo owned it? Meaning what, once you were hot you said yes I did it, or you told them before the test that you would likely fail. It matters. Is there a chance a waiver could be approved, that’s why they call it a waiver. I would contact the recruiter, you should know either way so that you may prep for the future whatever it may bring. Good Luck!

If this is your dream then keep fighting for it. Reach out to recruiting command of the recruiter fails to respond. Respectfully inform them that you are simply looking for resolution. Good luck!Jay Chan

Not everyone is cut out for military service, personally I don't see any significant reason the waiver should be approved. What do you bring to the table besides remorse for a flawed decision?

MSG Robert Conrad - To answer this let me detail the course of action I've taken since committing to a military career. Prior to 2019 I was a high school drop out who was around 285 lbs (previously 305) during my wrestling career. Once dedicating myself to the military I dropped to 240 by march 14 (When I first went to MEPS), I attained my high school diploma by February 15 (One month after reenrolling), I proved my aptitude by scoring an 81 on my ASVAB, after failing the test, I continued to drop my weight to 230-235 (At 23% bmi at the time of writing) and attained my STNA license as a realistic and reliable alternative. What I bring to the table is not only remorse, but the hunger for for military life, the heart to get what needs to get done done, the gull to continue fighting until what I wish to achieve is achieve, and the spirit anyone in the military can empathize with in regards to drive. In short, I bring what needs to be brought.

For the Army, first time positive at MEPS for THC is a 6 month wait and requires a waiver once the 6 month wait has lapsed. The waiver itself can be done in a matter of a day or two. I cannot speak for the other service's policy.

Thank you for the input, I actually met with an Army recruiter today that offered to work with me last Friday, he's gonna get me back up to MEPS to piss again this Monday, however, I will still have to wait x amount of days after for the Army to open waivers again, could be that following Tuesday, could be next year. I am just thankful to get that chance to prove I am clean now, and will continue getting ready for BCT physically and mentally.

Back in the days I was a recruiter. It should not take more than 90 days (in all reality, less than 30). It is not a MEPS function for resubmission, go to your recruiter and ask him/her the status of the drug waiver. If they give you the run around, go to another branch of service and have them run it up. A lot of guys on this thread are throwing shade, ignore them. Real talk chances are better than good that they were drug waivers themselves.

Solid numbers like that are exactly why I made the post, thank you so much sir. I meet with an Army recruiter tomorrow to turn in paperwork and get the ball rolling. Never again with the drugs and plan on giving all I got and then some once they let me swear in finally!

MAJ (Join to see) - I already spoke with the recruiter I will meet with tomorrow, my desire is to go Reserves with a 17c MOS so I can attend college for computer science, and ROTC, then re-enlist with a 25D MOS as an Officer, but obviously one step at a time!

Jay Chan I have an associates degree in computer science and I wouldn’t even try 17C. It’s like 50% fail rate and you need to know that stuff BEFORE you go to AIT. You’re about to get like 3 years worth of courses smashed into about a year.

This is your sign to go active. Rethink your decision and get away from your norm. Mistakes happen but things happen for a reason. Good luck.

Just spoke with an active Army recruiter on Friday, meeting again with him Tuesday at 10, he didn't sugar coat it, but said he'll be able to get me back to MEPS to piss, it's just a matter of waiting for them to say "Okay come and sign" afterwards IF they take me! Also that station is only at 64% of their recruitment goal by September, so things are looking better already

That’s good. Keep your head up and stay out of trouble get your ass into the Army and make the most of it and when you come back home to visit you will see the difference from the decision you made vs you hanging back on the block with the norm. Once you commit there is no looking back and only you can stop yourself permanently everything else is temporarily.

If you are granted a second chance, do not use drugs again! It is a felony if you get caught using narcotics while in the military.
