How long does it take to go from tier 3 to tier 5 clearance? Just got a job who wants to upgrade me and I honestly don’t want to quit my current job now and be waiting months on end just to get the upgrade and not working. I asked their HR and they said they don’t know only their security team knows that information.

It ultimately depends but from my experience, it hasn't been taking too long from eQIP to adjudication. I submitted one for T5 in June/July and they were adjudicated by end of October.

The average is about 80 days from eQIP to adjudication but that depends on the investigator, if you had major changes since your T3, etc. But adjudication for DoD is done by DCSA CAS.

It's definitely not a super quick process and I've noticed civilian security managers are really shitty at their job. But HR wouldn't know - only the security personnel would know that's true.

That's a pretty open ended question. How backed up is OPM? How long since your last investigation? Were there any flags that needed to be investigated and how severe? How backed up is OPM?

Even your security manager can't tell you exactly how long it will be on any given day. I've seen it take anywhere from six weeks to a year. I'd say most of the time time it falls between 3-9 months, but even that mostly depends on how backed up is OPM at the moment. I haven't sent anyone for an upgrade in well over a year, it might be quick right now

LTC (Join to see) that actually explains why around 2019/2020 they stopped all taking over nine months to complete

LTC (Join to see) - Actually the background investigations are done by NBIS. DCSA CAS does the adjudication.

Also there were even more recent changes before HBL in that everyone will have to do an SF86 review every five years. Until October, it's 7 years for Secret but after that everyone will do eQIP but then it goes to the security manager to review and report anything reportable they find. If applicable.

For initials, it's still going to be an investigation but for the "periodic review" they aren't doing investigations anymore.

My understanding is NBIS is part of DCSA now. They are one of my customers.

LTC (Join to see) - I thought I read NBIS replaced OPM. I just Googled it again and it said "In September 2019, background investigations were transferred from OPM's NBIB to Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency." I guess I read it wrong before.

I know to initiate an eQIP goes through PSI-COE. But the reinvestigation process did change in December.

Upgrading from a tier 3 to a tier 5 clearance can be a frustrating waiting game. It's understandable that you wouldn't want to leave your current job until the new one is a sure thing. While the HR department might not have specifics, it might be worth talking to the new employer's security team directly. They can likely give you a better idea of current processing times and if you might be eligible for an interim clearance while the full investigation for tier 5 is ongoing. An interim clearance would allow you to start working on classified https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/4-best-coursework-writing-services-uk-students-mary-walton-y0ome information at the Top Secret level even while the final clearance is being adjudicated.
