Hello, i have a question. In 2016 i planned on joining the army. I have taken the practice test, and filled out a bunch of paper work. Eventually i choose to attend college for the next couple of years because i thought i would score low on the asvab on the AR & MK part. I wanted to improve my knowledge on that end. I moved to Pittsburgh from Baltimore to attend school, and in 2019 i finally took the picat and tested very high! AFQT score 88 . I was very excited, and disappointed that i took that long to take it. My recruiter scheduled me to test at meps for the conformation test, but since i was previously on record for the army back in 2016, i have to wait for my records to transfer to Pittsburgh for the air force. I was wondering if anyone knew how long it would take to transfer? Hopefully not as long. I just want to get the meps process over with!

I'd call all three local Congress mil/vet staffs, fill out and either email or fax back Privacy Act (PA) requests, they need those by law, explain the whole thing, get their names and phones, as well, so you've got all of them...as said here below, it's likely to take a long time...you're likely also to possibly need help from NPRC in St. Louis, as your records might've wound up there, even though you didn't actually go Army...call 86-NARA-NARA, and ask to be transferred to to the ofc of the NPRC director, to speak with the staff there, we've done it many times, they can query Army where your stuff is, if Army's got it, they'll likely be able to find it, though, as I'd said, and as others have said, you're gonna have to be patient, it's gonna take as long as it's gonna take, and there's no way around that, all you can do is just file the request, you'll also likely need to send in an eVetRecs online Java applet request, then sign and date the printout, for God's sake don't lose the reference number on it, ot the NPRC staff on their switchboard won't be able to find it, that's all they're there for, they can't transfer you to the ofc of the NPRC director, only NARA can do that, or the Congress mil/vet staffs can try calling there, to see if you can get a call back...we've found the NPRC director's staff extremely helpful many times, you're gonna need to fax in thei eVetRecs printout, attach a cover letter with it, don't forget to sign and date it, till they get that, there's nothing to be done, the electronic online submission isn't enough, it's gotta be signed, dated, and faxed back, use the site here for eVetRecs, you'll get a letter in a few days that they got the request, then you're gonne hae to wait a month or two, while they find what they've got, even longer if they have to query Army, trust me, been there, done that (BTDT), OK? That's honestly the best I can give you as to how it really works, so far as we've seen it, if you wanna yak more, no rush, whenever you want, just lemme know, hope that's of at least some use, OK?

It may take a while. It took over 18 months to get my records transferred from the ARNG to the reserves. And it still took me calling in a favor from my former BN XO who happened to be deputy MILPO for the state at the time.

The time frame varies. Your recruiter will initiate a form 20 which requests your record from your previous meps. At that point, it is completely on the other meps as to how long it takes to transfer the record since it has to be mailed. Your recruiter or Station Commander should get a daily update on the status. At lease we do in the Army anyway. Hope this helps.
