The simple answer is how much the branch needs you. If we were trying to swell up the ranks, they'd probably put a rush job on the paperwork just to get you to basic training. On the other side, if we were trying to shrink the ranks, the recruiter might tell you that they can't get a waiver now for something they could waive a year ago.

Then there's recruiter quotas. Maybe the recruiter already has his numbers for this month, so he might string you along until next month and then suddenly all your paperwork gets signed and approved.

Like it's been said, there's many factors that could influence the process.

There is absolutely no way of telling you.

Depends on a huge amount of factors. What the medication was, how long you were on it, were your records complete enough, do you have any other issues, how were your grades...

As I'm sure your Recruiter told you, there's no way to know when the answer will be given. Be patient. This -is- going to take a while. Weeks or months. Impossible to know for sure.

Jayden Manning As long as someone is pulling their own weight, their past does not matter. Good luck.

3 months? 15 years? I mean, to mirror what the other folks are saying, it all depends on the situation & how fast process goes. I have been trying to get one since 2000.
The biggest factor is how much your recruiter is willing to fight for you to get you in, how much the CMO at MEPs is willing to fight to get you in. What effect the issue has on you in regards to what the service of your choice needs. And how much the service of your choice needs people.

Man, I was diagnosed manic bipolar and retired for it and I still have guys that I served with that would gladly fight side by side with me in combat. Issues aside, it doesn't have to define who you are as a person and a soldier. No one is going to care as long as you are a good soldier. Stick it out and be patient for that waiver and when you get in just make sure that there is never any reason that your abilities could come into question. Brave Rifles!

Jayden Manning could you do that job? If you were competent in the job, then I don't think anyone would give 2 craps if you had ADHD when you were a kid. Hell, most of us would be diagnosed w/ some form of it today. When I was a kid, when I was hyper-active, it was called being a 5 year old. That's not to make light of any particular situation, but it does seem like ADHD is a diagnosis that is handed out like candy these days.

To answer your 2nd question, I would be comfortable fighting side by side with anyone so long as they actually wanted to be there. If someone doesn't want to be there, I'm watching his back and my own. But if they want to be there, I'm only watching his back because I trust him with mine.
