How long was boot camp at Fort Benning GA in 1947?

I am doing research on my father's military records. It has him enlisting on Jl 23, 1947 at Fort Benning. Later, he was sent to South Dakota. Due to lost records by fire, I am unable to find out when he reported to SD. Any help would be appreciated.

Basic Military Training was changed from six weeks to eight weeks in 1947.
It is likely that change was in effect by July.
However, after graduation he could have been waiting days, weeks or possibly months for a train to SD.
