SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL - Thank you very much but as you are aware, we don't do this for the recognition or the pay. I have been chomping at the bit to go again but I have been plagued with surgeries since my 10-11 tour. I am finally medically cleared to travel again but I am not cleared to go back in to a "hot" spot. I don't think that will ever happen again. I was having a discussion a few weeks ago with all of my Airmen E-6 and below and let them know that the honeymoon is over and I only have a little more than 1 year left in the Air Force. I told them that I have to live vicariously through them, all my war stories are old war stories. That then turned in to a candid mentorship session. You know what, that is what I will miss the most.

MSgt John Carroll I can relate, my Soldiers called me "OLE TYMER" and they respected me until the day I got out. I will never forgot the memories. You are a hero amongst your Airmen and the Nation. I can truly relate with over 25 years of Service to the Nation.

COL Mikel J. Burroughs thank you for your service. I remember crossing the Mississippi River and crossing into Iowa-headed to Fort Ord, California on I-80. I could see the fields and the watermark trees for miles where the food had risen and rescinded. I will never forgot crossing the Mississippi River with about 10 feet of clearance.

Desert Storm....activated only
Now in AGR as Rctr....never deployed but provide the strength for about 18 more months! It makes me upset to not have earned that combat patch, but grateful that God had other plans!

SFC A.M. Drake thank you for your service. Well said and profoundly expressed. I never deployed to DS/DS, I was on stand-by and have regrets of not participating, it haunted me years. I finally got a chance in in 2003 to deploy and fight in a conventional war zone against a nation(force on force warfare).

SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL I had to help set up, on Yokota AF base, thousands of cots for possible incoming American evacuees from China for Tienanmen Square. Does that count?

(I jest. I know it doesn't. Just throwing a little humor, SFC!)

Since 1982, I'm on number 10...not those Air Force 90 or 180 day types either. 6 bona-fide combat (although one was fobbit-based in Iraq), and #7 was labeled "humanitarian" and later credited combat (Honduras during the day-Nicaragua at night)... Then the Bosnia & Kosovo & twice to Korean DMZ (don't know what the hell to call that...but no family & no fun). What I have noticed over the years....it's about timing and chance...not the individual. You can get assigned to a unit right after they came back, so no deployment for you....or you could come home from a deployment and get assigned to another unit going back. Timing and chance, and being Combat Arms MOS seems to have a hand in it too. No small surprise that I served with the postee SFC (R) Davis when he was in 2/1 CAV together in Afghanistan. As I sit here in Korea with 2/1 CAV this makes my 4th time with 2/1 CAV alone....2nd BDE, 1st Cavalry is the most deployed Armored Brigade in the Army (and some of us are pretty damned tired!)

Honduras. the Contra War that could have been really ugly had Nicaragua pursued the fight into Honduras. My Mother is from Honduras. I am amazed El Salvador is pacified now and red flags are now political party hqs and not rogue CPs on the route to San Salvador. Thanks for your service CSM! my posting was nothing compared to yours! 10 tours! wow thanks for putting up with all this. you made CSM so you are in the top of the NCO rank congrats to you too!

LTC Stephen Conway - Thank you Sir, it's not bragging. It's really about timing & chance as previously described. It does however, come with a price. I lost count of birthdays, holidays and one time events I missed out on; but making it up with my family has been the priority.

Roger CSM, I know the feeling. Not the same to see the kid on skype teleconference than being there in person.
