According to ALARACT 038-2020, we are authorized to take up to 10 days, however, I am hearing of other people in my unit taking 20 plus days for PCS leave. Either, they are misinformed, or I misread something in the ALARACT. I have 64 plus leave days saved up and I want to take 30 days however, I’m not sure if I can cuz of the alaract. My S1 is telling me the amount of leave authorized for PCS should be in my orders (still pending to receive). Is that correct?

The amount of leave you're authorized to take would never be in your orders, that's just not something that gets put in there. The 10 days also includes travel time, so if you were driving to somewhere and you're authorized 5 travel days, you would get 5 days of travel plus 5 days of leave.

You can submit an Exception to Policy Memorandum & get it signed by your Chain of Command. Exceptions are given for schooling of children, buying a house at the next duty station, etc. Just speak with your Company Commander or equivalent for assistance. This is only good through the end of JUN 2020- if you're PCS Leave is on or after 1 JUL 2020 then there's no 10 day limit & you don't need an ETP.

During the stop move, the ALARACT is what dictates how much leave you can take. If the ALARACT say 10, you can take 10 days. Outside of the stop move, there should be a unit policy letter

You can take more than 10 days of leave, but must state in the ETP why you need those extra days. For example, driving to Alaska from Bragg you get 13 travel days. Note that travel days are not charged but are still accounted for on a Da31.
Where the 10 comes in is really supposed to be your 10 PTDY when you get to your gaining unit.
You will have a hard time getting your losing unit to bless of on leave days before you go.

How many days of PCS leave you are allowed to take is based on your report date to your new unit. You are to take less and early report if you choose. Once you get to your new unit you can apply for more leave if you choose after you have completed in-processing.
