How many of you have been or are currently members of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary?

I was part of the USCGA for 2 years. In my experience, a lot of the "flotillas" are disorganized. One example is I never received my ID card after reminding them several times.

The Coast Guard Auxiliary is a part of the Coast Guard. However, they are only there to support the Coast Guards boater safety mission. They mostly go around and check your life jackets, flares, and offer tows to help the small boat stations. I've heard stories of them getting in the way by overstepping their role, and authority.
By the way. The Coast Guard Auxiliary doesn't actually get paid. The Coast Guard will only pay for their fuel used. Everything else is out of pocket.

Not true PO2 Sheibels, when I was assigned to an AD CG Unit in Chicago I was trained and certified as a Boat Crew on the AD boats and was in training to be a Coxswain on them as well. I was also trained and certified as a Radio Watchstander at the station as well. Many Auxiliary Units that are at or near AD stations do many of the same jobs as AD CG does. Also the Auxiliary pays for much of the training, if on orders, that members get by using AD CG schools. They paid for my transportation, housing and food during the training. Plus we are covered by the same medical as AD CG when under orders and have CG Exchange privileges.
