How many of you have joined, or thought about joining, a motorcycle group?

I know I joined a motorcycle association to help our own. I am glad I did, because not only do I help our brothers and sisters that need help but the bond in the group is unbelievable.

When I bought my Harley, the dealership bought me a one year membership to the Harley Owners Group (HOG) as is standard now with all purchases new or used. But I joined the local HOG chapter to meet "like' minded people and ride, and found out that most of these people are retired veterans just like myself. I also like the no pressure hassles of being in this group.

I would like to (when I get back from Korea), but it seems that most motorcycle groups are aimed at Harley/cruiser riders. I ride sportbikes, and even though the bike I've got in storage is American (Buell) I don't feel like I fit in with the normal motorcycle club crowd.

That's not true. There are a lot of groups that do set that but I know my group is set up for any bike as long it 600 cc or more. I ride a Harley now but when I join I had a Hayabusa.

I ride Hondas and the Green Knights have always welcomed me, my family, even my ex-wives. Great group and worldwide.

The US Military Vets MC will allow any bike 750cc plus. My chapter had a brother that rode a sport bike until this year when he changed to a cruiser. Our Chapter pres rides a Honda. Of course I'll keep my Harley, but that is me.

I personally ride proudly with the Vietnam Vets/Legacy Vets. Waco was bad for us just like several other veteran clubs that had members there. My understanding is it was chosen as neutral to help ensure something like that didn't happen.
That being said I would warn service members to do a lot of research before riding with or joining any motorcycle group; just because they aren't wearing an MC patch doesn't mean they are safe for your career, the caveat is just because they are wearing an MC patch doesn't mean they aren't. No matter what choices you make, be and ride safely.
