How many of you have taken an assignment that is 3 years or more, and gone unaccompanied by your spouse?

I have an ETS date of sept 2016, but I was recently DA selected to become a DS. If I decide to stay in I will be going by myself. There are far better work opportunities for my husband here than at FLW. Just wondering how common is it to do assignments over a year unaccompanied? I only hear about ones that are a year.

My AIT was 55 weeks and my husband moved with me because he wanted to move out of the small town we lived in. I came up on orders to Germany for 3 years and he is coming with me. I know someone who came up on orders to Korea and decided to go unaccompanied. For us, my husband and I would rather be at the same place and only separated when I deploy. If you are going by yourself, just make sure your husband is able to visit you. I know the schedule for a DS will be hectic, but just try to go home and see hom when you can.

I have never had one, but working here in S-1 I have seen a couple. They normally aren't that common as it is the choice of the service member. Had a fellow instructor that came to Fort Sam this way for nearly 3 years.
