Please tell me that I'm not the only one who thought that ridiculous personality test was a complete joke and a slap in the face to air traffic controllers everywhere. Heaven forbid they should actually consider people based on their qualifications and prior experience. The next time I hear anyone talk about how the FAA is so short on air traffic controllers, I'm just going to say, "They brought it on themselves!"

We were 93 Hotels as tower operators when I was in. Are tower and radar operaters 15Q now?

It is interesting to note the FAA age maximum is 37. That just happens to exclude any possible retired military Controllers. They certainly don't want an influx of varied experience in their organization.

You are right, Jed. The maximum age for off-the-street hire (no Federal service) is with an Academy start date prior to their 31st birthday. Prior Federal service applicants need only be able to reach 20 years by the end of the month that contains their 56th birthday.

Of course, my original post stating the age restriction was based upon 1989ish data. Perhaps I was misled by controllers in the system back then. Moot point now anyway.

I am thinking about reclassing to a 15Q but I had a question about the age limit after I get out of the army if I wish to work for the FAA. I am already 32 and plan to spend a few more years in the army if I reclass. If I were to get out at the age of 37 would there be a chance for me to still be hired by the FAA as an ATC.

SPC (Join to see) - The FAA is in the process of changing how it hires new controllers so regulations may change within the next couple of years, but for the last two years now, in addition to their off-the-street hiring announcements, there have been announcements in January of each year for prior-experience controllers. There is one open right now:

However, if you are already 32, then I don't think you're going to be able to qualify. You must have started civilian Federal service in the 2152 series (military not included) before your 31st birthday. You can read the announcement for yourself to see if there are any other categories that you might be able to qualify under, but it's not looking good bro.
