As a team leader I understand the importance of counseling my soldiers. However when it is mandated to do a developmental every month, is it really benefitting anyone? Would quarterly counselings be more beneficial? What are your thoughts?

Soldiers should be counseled monthly and I believe reception and integration counseling should be conducted in the first 24 hours in the unit. There are many reasons why soldiers should be counseled and those different type should be done immediately following the incident either good or bad.

It depends on the individual and the leader. As a SSgt I don't require to be counseled on a monthl basis as I understand my job and know what needs to be done as well as what it takes to get promoted. Junior marines need to be counseled more frequently as they are still learning the system and it is you duty to ensure that they are doing everything that is required of them and make suggestions on how they can improve.
