How's Ft. Campbell and the surrounding area?

SSG (Join to see) agree with SFC Casey O'Mally . Clarksville and Campbell were great for my family. I lived off Tiny Town in a housing development. Best neighbors I have had in 26 years lived next door, with more surrounding us. Didn't realize when I rented that I would live in a SOAR enclave and I'd fave little bird coverage watching the culdesac. The schools were good, teachers cared. I have never seen a town more tuned into the the installation and in particular the Division. If I were still AD, I would go back.

As all stated above - Fort Campbell is a Great place to settle down for the civilians side of the coin. However, once you cross the gates of "Rendezvous with Destiny"...lace your boots up because its a ride of your life.

Been here over 2 years now and moving this fall. I live out in woodlawn and love it. No neighbors, easy ride to work. Nashville is nice but off limits right now.

Was there 20 something years ago when I was SGT SSG. Probably my favorite combo duty station and area to live. Was a relatively short drive to our home in SE Missouri, close to Nashville, lots to do in surrounding area, good units on post, etc. At that time military discount not have to pay sales tax on new vehicles in Tennessee.

Clarksville is a GREAT city (was voted best city in America in either 2018 or 2019 - don't aske me criteria for "best" though, I have no clue).
If you are looking for a more rural life, there are plenty of nearby (within 30 min of gate) options as well (Guthrie, KY, Herndon, KY come to mind, but there are more). I would avoid Hopkinsville, KY unless your primary concern is stretching your dollar (schools are subpar, unless you want to spend on private, town has very little night life, and there are very few "good" neighborhoods) - I am speaking as a guy who DOES live there.
In Clarksville, there are a TON of apartment/townouse complexes that cater to military. Housing office has a list of one's who work with them to help out Soldiers with reducing move-in cost. NOT ALL ARE CREATED EQUAL. A little bit of online research (I.e. check reviews) goes a LONG way.

Those that served there can add detail, but there are lots of good outdoor opportunities. I know the area fairly well and if you need a pause in the country, this should fill the bill. Metro and mountains are within a reasonable drive. You're SOL on the beach unless you hop to gulf or e. coast once a year. Gulf Shores AL or FL panhandle are a one day hop. The usual camp followers outside the gate. Hope you have a great tour.

For me, I was stationed at Fort Campbell KY. Back in 82-84, I liked it, even though they didn't have all the luxuries of today. The two best places to go was Nashville and land between the lakes, as far as schooling goes for your children ask when you arrive. As far as housing goes, I found that the further you was away from any installation the better the rental or property sales was better, that would in the schools your children would attend, do want cheap or convenience

I personally like running/rucking at Clarksville Greenway. Its family friendly and its a nice scenic place.

I liked it but I was 3 hrs from home on Lexington, KY so a little biased as I went home about every weekend. But you're about 1.5 hrs from Nashville and I had fun there.
