How should a situation in the MCX about wearing a cover in the building be handled properly?
NEITHER MYSELF OR MY WIFE ARE IN THE HABIT OF TELLING A LIE OR MAKING UP A STORY - IT HAPPENED! FOCUS ON THE QUESTION - NOT WETHER YOU BELIEVE THE INCIDENT HAPPENED OR NOT!
RP Members was this handled properly by the Junior Officer, SgtMaj, or the mother? What would you have done?
THIS WAS A REAL SITUATION THAT TOOK PLACE YESTERDAY 12/30/2015
CORRECTION: I've receive collaboration from another lady who also had firsthand knowledge of this incident in the MCX - "The "youth" was not an AD USMC, but part of a group of Young Marines. Her description of this group is that it is one for troubled youth to attempt to instill discipline and maybe bring them into the fold."
I apologize to all of those individuals that I stood firm on with, that it was young Marine Private (based on all the information I received), but the discussion, question, and feedback on how the situation was handled by the Junior Officer, Sgt Mgr, and Mother have been outstanding - that I don't apologize for - thanks
If anything, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and my wife called me at home immediately following the incident - she knew I would enjoy hearing about it. I just said, "that SgtMaj owns that young Marine!"
RP Members this one comes from the wife that works at Camp Pendleton, CA Marine Base in the MCX.
A young "Youth" Marine was in the check-out line with his mother and "CORRECTION" (put his cover on inside!) He was approached by a AD Marine (Junior Officer) and asked to remove the cover. Immediately the young "Youth" Marine took up the defensive and asked the junior officer "who the F*** are you?" The Junior Officer then got into the young "Youth" Marine's face and told him to have some respect and remove the cover - it escalated into a shouting match in the check-out line in the MCX. Coming from the back of the store there was a loud roar from a Sergeant Major in the Marines (built like a tank according to my wife). He bellowed, "both of you shut your mouth there are families in here!" The MCX went silent and several employees and Marines hit the deck (no kidding). The SgtMaj came to the front and grabbed the young "Youth" Marine the by collar escorting him and the Junior Officer out of the MCX with the Young "Youth" Marine's mother yelling, "don't touch my boy!"

LCpl (Join to see) Thanks for cleaning up your response this time. I've served for 37 years in the military and I didn't pull this off the Internet - my wife who works at Camp Pendleton, CA on a daily basis called me immediately after this happened. Don't really care whether you want to call me a liar or say the story that I reported as it happened is BS, but you calling my wife a Liar I have issues.
With that said, let's get back to the actual question that I posted: "How should a situation in the MCX about wearing a cover in the building be handled properly?" I'm interested in your leadership and military bearing experience perspective on the question whether you believe my wife's explanation of what happened or not in this MCX? Thanks Kevin

funny shit but no real Marine would say who the f are you to any officer and no Sgt Maj. would tell a officer to shut up.

Sgt William Barr Hate to disappoint you, but I stand behind my wife's story on what was said and exactly how it happened. Stuff happens - that why they call stuff - fill in the "Stuff" It is what it is!

If it was brought to his attention politely, it's not viable that he didn't just take it off and apologize. Unless it was a regular baseball cap which is another story. Could have been a Sopranos episode when Tony told the man dining at the classy restaurant to have respect and remove his hat. But this was the MCX.

Pvt Angel Toro Unfortunately, it was true story, otherwise I guess I would have to divorce my wife for lying or make her drop and give me 25. LOL! I tend to believe my wife, she is pretty smart and very reliable! Pvt Toro you believe what you want to believe, but I wouldn't publish something that wasn't true - have a good day!

have to agree with sgt kennedy here, it all sounds pretty far fetched and too many details are left out. While I'm not saying it did NOT happen, I'm saying there are too many details left out. One would not make it 15 feet into ANY store with SOMEONE saying, hey mac, remove your cover...

SGT (Join to see) Sorry you feel that way, but my wife is pretty intelligent and based on what I've heard from her co-workers when I went there that afternoon - she was dead on and was fifteen feet away - here Estee Lauder counter is right by the check-out counter that is specal for Marines in Uniform! Thats okay Scott there have been many doubters and they are entitled to their opinion - I was really looking for feedback about how the situation could have been handled better (when a young soldier snaps for whatever reason). Unfortantley, I've seen that happen on numerous occasions throughout my 37 years of serving - it does happen! Thanks

He should have known better. I learned that in boot in 65 and I bet he won't do it again after the SM straightened his ass out.

With all due respect Colonel, this has the strong odor of male bovine scat about it. First of all SgtMaj's do not grab enlisted Marines by the collar - just doesn't happen. If the SgtMaj was in uniform - which this post seems to indicate, his mere presence is enough to cause the young Marine to instantly obey a command - and probably as well to defecate in his trousers at the same time as well . .Secondly if the Junior Officer was in uniform, or properly identified himself as and officer it is my most profound belief that the first and second thing this Marine would have done is say "Aye Aye Sir", and then removed his cover. But then what do I know I only spent 30 years in the Marine Corps as both Officer and enlisted.

Maj Michael StClair You're about the second or third Marine that has called out my wife as telling a story and you can't believe that a Marine SgtMaj would grab a "horse Collar" by the collar. By the way, I don't have a problem with that, because she is as sharp as a nail and Italian! "Horse Collar" is what my very 1SG in the Army use to call young mean that didn't have there stuff together on a given day. First and foremost the Marine should have remove his cover when asked the junior officer instead of going off on him and creating a panic in the store. I have no reason to doubt her and she has no reason to lie. He actually had arms like a bear and practically lifted the young man off the floor when he grabbed his collar. According to the wife, neither the young Marine or Jubior said a word after that and they all three went outside to finish the business at hand. I've seen all the service bracnhes do somenting out of line in my 37 years, so even thought it's not a common occurence it does happen! It is what it is and what it was.
