How should a situation in the MCX about wearing a cover in the building be handled properly?

NEITHER MYSELF OR MY WIFE ARE IN THE HABIT OF TELLING A LIE OR MAKING UP A STORY - IT HAPPENED! FOCUS ON THE QUESTION - NOT WETHER YOU BELIEVE THE INCIDENT HAPPENED OR NOT!

RP Members was this handled properly by the Junior Officer, SgtMaj, or the mother? What would you have done?

THIS WAS A REAL SITUATION THAT TOOK PLACE YESTERDAY 12/30/2015

CORRECTION: I've receive collaboration from another lady who also had firsthand knowledge of this incident in the MCX - "The "youth" was not an AD USMC, but part of a group of Young Marines. Her description of this group is that it is one for troubled youth to attempt to instill discipline and maybe bring them into the fold."

I apologize to all of those individuals that I stood firm on with, that it was young Marine Private (based on all the information I received), but the discussion, question, and feedback on how the situation was handled by the Junior Officer, Sgt Mgr, and Mother have been outstanding - that I don't apologize for - thanks

If anything, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and my wife called me at home immediately following the incident - she knew I would enjoy hearing about it. I just said, "that SgtMaj owns that young Marine!"

RP Members this one comes from the wife that works at Camp Pendleton, CA Marine Base in the MCX.

A young "Youth" Marine was in the check-out line with his mother and "CORRECTION" (put his cover on inside!) He was approached by a AD Marine (Junior Officer) and asked to remove the cover. Immediately the young "Youth" Marine took up the defensive and asked the junior officer "who the F*** are you?" The Junior Officer then got into the young "Youth" Marine's face and told him to have some respect and remove the cover - it escalated into a shouting match in the check-out line in the MCX. Coming from the back of the store there was a loud roar from a Sergeant Major in the Marines (built like a tank according to my wife). He bellowed, "both of you shut your mouth there are families in here!" The MCX went silent and several employees and Marines hit the deck (no kidding). The SgtMaj came to the front and grabbed the young "Youth" Marine the by collar escorting him and the Junior Officer out of the MCX with the Young "Youth" Marine's mother yelling, "don't touch my boy!"

Honestly, this Marine should have been chopped in the throat by everyone Sr to him in the exchange. Where does evading or challenging a direct order stop? Where does allowing troops pick their own paths after being directed stop only to end up with their lives in a leaders hand that no one takes regard to? We are getting away; in all branches, from having command and control. Not in dictatorship but in general good over bad "do what I tell you too". When does it stop?

SSG Leonard Johnson That is it! Exactly the way my wife called and told me about it on the phone sveral minutes after the SgtMaj excorted them both out of the MCX. My wife is pretty reliable as a Counter Manager there at the MCX. She usually doesn't exaggerate about anything like this! It is what it is!

Young Marine officer was right to correct and wrong to get into the bait of a shouting match. Young enlisted Marine should've just took his cover off and shut up instead of cussing in front of his mother and thinking he's above others. A SGM diffused the situation the best way possible.

It's seems that two junior personnel regardless of rank let there testosterone and personal maturity get the best of them. SMaj handled it the way I would have.

As any other young, dumb, full of c#%m, Marine would fell on their 1st enlistment in the Corps. (Still wearing his dog tags everyday), more then likely was feeling himself and got checked on it. We never wear our covers inside unless under arms. Come on Devil Dog. You can't beat Marine Corps. rules & Regs! Stupid!!!!

Back when I was a young PFC at Ft. Hood, I was at aa Wal Mart with my wife while headed home. We were talking and I guess I forgot that I was still inside, or that I was still in uniform, who knows, but I put my hat back on somewhere near the cheese. I was called out within a few seconds by what I assume was a senior nco in civilian clothes and told to remove my cover. It was embarrassing to be called out like that in front of my wife, but it was my stupidity that got me into the situation to begin with, and in my day, I'm sure that a lot worse would have happened if I had decided to argue the point in the store. The marine was probably trying to make himself seem more bad ass than he was while with his mom, and he paid the price for it. I know the embarrassment and shame from being called out like that, but it was his fault and he should have accepted the shame that came with being called out.

A proper reprimand would seem more reasonable depending on rank and if out ranked by saying " With all due respect " and then addressing the issue would have solved the problem, but you never know when you would run into a gung-ho Marine or an ex D.I who still adjusting back to the Fleet Marine Force

The younger Marine has an NJP coming. Disobedience to a direct order, insubordination and disrespect to a superior.

It's the Corps. handle it how you handle it. If this Marine's mother happened to be present and she got sad about it, then she should have been as kindly explained to as possible that her son is in the Corps., not in the Boy Scouts and that there is a certain standard that is expected of all military, let alone the Corps. and that if he didn't like it he can go make out with a bunch of dudes and get the fuck out.
