How should a situation in the MCX about wearing a cover in the building be handled properly?

NEITHER MYSELF OR MY WIFE ARE IN THE HABIT OF TELLING A LIE OR MAKING UP A STORY - IT HAPPENED! FOCUS ON THE QUESTION - NOT WETHER YOU BELIEVE THE INCIDENT HAPPENED OR NOT!

RP Members was this handled properly by the Junior Officer, SgtMaj, or the mother? What would you have done?

THIS WAS A REAL SITUATION THAT TOOK PLACE YESTERDAY 12/30/2015

CORRECTION: I've receive collaboration from another lady who also had firsthand knowledge of this incident in the MCX - "The "youth" was not an AD USMC, but part of a group of Young Marines. Her description of this group is that it is one for troubled youth to attempt to instill discipline and maybe bring them into the fold."

I apologize to all of those individuals that I stood firm on with, that it was young Marine Private (based on all the information I received), but the discussion, question, and feedback on how the situation was handled by the Junior Officer, Sgt Mgr, and Mother have been outstanding - that I don't apologize for - thanks

If anything, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and my wife called me at home immediately following the incident - she knew I would enjoy hearing about it. I just said, "that SgtMaj owns that young Marine!"

RP Members this one comes from the wife that works at Camp Pendleton, CA Marine Base in the MCX.

A young "Youth" Marine was in the check-out line with his mother and "CORRECTION" (put his cover on inside!) He was approached by a AD Marine (Junior Officer) and asked to remove the cover. Immediately the young "Youth" Marine took up the defensive and asked the junior officer "who the F*** are you?" The Junior Officer then got into the young "Youth" Marine's face and told him to have some respect and remove the cover - it escalated into a shouting match in the check-out line in the MCX. Coming from the back of the store there was a loud roar from a Sergeant Major in the Marines (built like a tank according to my wife). He bellowed, "both of you shut your mouth there are families in here!" The MCX went silent and several employees and Marines hit the deck (no kidding). The SgtMaj came to the front and grabbed the young "Youth" Marine the by collar escorting him and the Junior Officer out of the MCX with the Young "Youth" Marine's mother yelling, "don't touch my boy!"

It's a simple matter of the four finger salute to the individual and state, "Uncover!" Trust the individual quickly responds by uncovering. After which call them into your office and issue a verbal warning for a 1st time offense, followed by written corrections for subsequent offenses.

I was taught, first on not to wear my cover inside of any building. He probably had a relapse, because he was in the FMF. From what I can tell, only Army,Air Force, and Navy personnel allow this tradition of having their covers insid.

That may be the case, (covers allowed indoors), in "Today's Army", but was trained out of every E-1 through E-3 in boot camp when I was in the Army.

Seems to me that the hat wearer was wrong and the officer should have handled it better. Regardless the hat wearer was wrong and should be held accountable. Good order and discipline shall be followed. The question is why no one else approached the hat wearer before the officer and corrected him.

I have a hard time believing this story to be real!

Additionally, Command Sergeant Major is an Army rank. I know there was a correction but find this adds to the believability of the story. There are two sides to every situation and eight-million stories in a naked city.

Finally, Marines police their own and do a dam fine job of it...

SFC (Join to see) It's real and it happen just like my wife reported it - she is pretty reliable as a Colonel's Wife - It is what what it was! Been corrected on the CSM versus SgtMaj rank in the Marines many times too. Now, if you can make yourself believe my wife's full account of what took place, can you provide some feedback on the original question (forget about the service) or anyone branch being perfect: "How should a situation in the MCX about wearing a cover in the building be handled properly?"

I was Military Police many moons ago in the Army and I was always taught when an Officer no matter what grade addresses you the first response out of your mouth was Sir. Not Who the F### are you. That was his mistake Army Regs and Marine Regs aren"t that much different when it comes to Customs and Courtsey. The Junior Officer I will assume that he was a brand new Butter bar done what he was supposed to do and make an on the spot correction. Which is what he tried to do. When compliance had not been met he should attempt to find out the young mans unit and notifiy his chane of command of what transpired and let the chain of command deal with it. But UNFORTUNATELY the SMA got involved and Sergeant Majors are Sergeant Majors and will handle things in the most expediant manner which is harsh at time. Should the young marine getr extra duty yes about 14 and 14 would sufice. Nuff said.

You know you're in the wrong for wearing a cover indoors, regards of who tells you to remove your cover, shut up and do it.

Sounds like a case of Affluenza Marine and his enabling mommy. I cant imagine saying "who the fuck are you?" to anyone even a PX worker when I was still waiting to graduate. Hard to believe this story really because I just cant imagine a young RECRUIT doing that so close to the end of boot camp. I was there in 1986 myself and again to see my son graduate this past summer in July. The Junior Officer as the story is told did nothing wrong. I had to tell my son to take his cover off in that same PX just because he was distracted by us being there, seeing he daughter for the first time in months. But as soon as I said it he grabbed it and took it off so it is taught to these guys still. I would of climbed that kid in front of his whole family.

Actually, CPL the Junior Officer did "something wrong", he allowed the situation to escalate into a shouting match.
