How should a situation in the MCX about wearing a cover in the building be handled properly?
NEITHER MYSELF OR MY WIFE ARE IN THE HABIT OF TELLING A LIE OR MAKING UP A STORY - IT HAPPENED! FOCUS ON THE QUESTION - NOT WETHER YOU BELIEVE THE INCIDENT HAPPENED OR NOT!
RP Members was this handled properly by the Junior Officer, SgtMaj, or the mother? What would you have done?
THIS WAS A REAL SITUATION THAT TOOK PLACE YESTERDAY 12/30/2015
CORRECTION: I've receive collaboration from another lady who also had firsthand knowledge of this incident in the MCX - "The "youth" was not an AD USMC, but part of a group of Young Marines. Her description of this group is that it is one for troubled youth to attempt to instill discipline and maybe bring them into the fold."
I apologize to all of those individuals that I stood firm on with, that it was young Marine Private (based on all the information I received), but the discussion, question, and feedback on how the situation was handled by the Junior Officer, Sgt Mgr, and Mother have been outstanding - that I don't apologize for - thanks
If anything, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and my wife called me at home immediately following the incident - she knew I would enjoy hearing about it. I just said, "that SgtMaj owns that young Marine!"
RP Members this one comes from the wife that works at Camp Pendleton, CA Marine Base in the MCX.
A young "Youth" Marine was in the check-out line with his mother and "CORRECTION" (put his cover on inside!) He was approached by a AD Marine (Junior Officer) and asked to remove the cover. Immediately the young "Youth" Marine took up the defensive and asked the junior officer "who the F*** are you?" The Junior Officer then got into the young "Youth" Marine's face and told him to have some respect and remove the cover - it escalated into a shouting match in the check-out line in the MCX. Coming from the back of the store there was a loud roar from a Sergeant Major in the Marines (built like a tank according to my wife). He bellowed, "both of you shut your mouth there are families in here!" The MCX went silent and several employees and Marines hit the deck (no kidding). The SgtMaj came to the front and grabbed the young "Youth" Marine the by collar escorting him and the Junior Officer out of the MCX with the Young "Youth" Marine's mother yelling, "don't touch my boy!"

Do they mean young Marine like the little boy scout group? If so this makes so much more sense

Cpl Samuel Ryan Nope, a real young Marine Pvt (loosing his cool). How do you think it should have been handled?

I gotta say, I'm questioning the validity of this. "Several employees and Marines hit the deck" because a Saj Maj started yelling? Why? That makes no sense. And what Marine in his right mind is going to yell "who the fuck are you" at an officer? Even if the officer was in civvies, I never knew anyone who was dumb enough to mouth off like that to a Marine out of uniform who they didn't know. You never know who you're about to piss off. Other than that, stories like this are actually pretty common. I'm not sure why someone felt compelled to write about it and post it. Sounds like just another turd who doesn't like having to follow the stupid little rules, and doesn't like being corrected for it when he breaks them. I won't cast this aside as definitively being a lie or a story that was conjured up for entertainment though. I suppose, all things being considered, this story is plausible at the very least. Would be nice if there was more information provided to support the validity of the story.

Cpl Ben Earl It did happen and because several civilians hit the deck, so did a Marine in the fragrance area did too. The employee (in my wife's section that hit the deck) did because she was involved in a shooting at her last retail job where a firend of her's was killed in the past, she actually told people to get down. This is part of retail training, so a couple of Marines actually followed her demand to get down. I've seen service members in several different services including the Marines use the words you don't believe. Nothing is impossible and that is why we have leadership, NCOs, and the UCMJ. I've been doing this since 1975 through 2012. I've experience a lot of good, bad, and ugly in the military and within joint operations. Ben I'm a Colonel and I wrote about it to get feedback on how it should have been handled. I'm sure that several others could have written a version of incident, but my wife is pretty darn reliable and I actually went to the MCX to confirm before I shared with RallyPoint. It made for a good leadership and discipline discussion. Thanks

Cpl Dan A. Unfortunately it did and if you read through some of the other positive responses it has happen before and it will happen again. There will always be those bad apples that show their ugly head in the services. All Services have those Bad apples, that is why we have NCOs and why we have the UCMJ Dan. How about answering the question at hand - was it handled properly? Thanks
P.S. As a Colonel serving 9 years enlisted (and an NCO) and 28 years of Commissioned Service I don't make it habit of making up bullshit and neither does my wife. Try to keep that in mind for future reference. Thanks

I'm sorry but I do not believe this story whatsoever. There's no way in hell that kid would have made it through basic with such disrespect to an officer and no common sense unless the marine corps just totally don't give a shit about the quality of marines they mold.

SSgt (Join to see) You know something that is your propagative not to believe the story - I don't make it a habit of posting lies, nor does my wife, or do I just make up stuff Staff Sergeant. You believe what you want to believe. Watch your language here on RallyPoint also! Now, in your perfect world if this did happen, how should the leadershipo have handled it? That was the basis of the question, which you missed because you don't think soldiers, sailors, marines, or airman make mistakes or have a bad hair day! Wake up!

This skit sounds fake...maybe an embellished minor skirmish.

SSgt Chuck “Gunz” Gundlach USMC Ret., MBA Nope, happend as reported and confirmed by yours truly the Colonel - I don't embellish! As an NCO in the Marines how do you think it should've been handled or how would have you handled it from a leadership standpoint. Also, keep in mind Chuck I've seen a lot of mistakes made by soldiers, marines, sailors, and airman in my 37 years - it does happen! Thanks for your response in advance!

Being the Officer, or any Marine seeing the Marine with his cover on, I would have asked him to remove it as was done. When the Marine became belligerent, disrespectful and loud, as the Lt or any Marine in the area to hear and see what was going on, I would have asked the Marine to walk outside with me, and we would have talked between ourselves rather than belittle one another and the Marine Corps in public.
