How should a situation in the MCX about wearing a cover in the building be handled properly?
NEITHER MYSELF OR MY WIFE ARE IN THE HABIT OF TELLING A LIE OR MAKING UP A STORY - IT HAPPENED! FOCUS ON THE QUESTION - NOT WETHER YOU BELIEVE THE INCIDENT HAPPENED OR NOT!
RP Members was this handled properly by the Junior Officer, SgtMaj, or the mother? What would you have done?
THIS WAS A REAL SITUATION THAT TOOK PLACE YESTERDAY 12/30/2015
CORRECTION: I've receive collaboration from another lady who also had firsthand knowledge of this incident in the MCX - "The "youth" was not an AD USMC, but part of a group of Young Marines. Her description of this group is that it is one for troubled youth to attempt to instill discipline and maybe bring them into the fold."
I apologize to all of those individuals that I stood firm on with, that it was young Marine Private (based on all the information I received), but the discussion, question, and feedback on how the situation was handled by the Junior Officer, Sgt Mgr, and Mother have been outstanding - that I don't apologize for - thanks
If anything, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and my wife called me at home immediately following the incident - she knew I would enjoy hearing about it. I just said, "that SgtMaj owns that young Marine!"
RP Members this one comes from the wife that works at Camp Pendleton, CA Marine Base in the MCX.
A young "Youth" Marine was in the check-out line with his mother and "CORRECTION" (put his cover on inside!) He was approached by a AD Marine (Junior Officer) and asked to remove the cover. Immediately the young "Youth" Marine took up the defensive and asked the junior officer "who the F*** are you?" The Junior Officer then got into the young "Youth" Marine's face and told him to have some respect and remove the cover - it escalated into a shouting match in the check-out line in the MCX. Coming from the back of the store there was a loud roar from a Sergeant Major in the Marines (built like a tank according to my wife). He bellowed, "both of you shut your mouth there are families in here!" The MCX went silent and several employees and Marines hit the deck (no kidding). The SgtMaj came to the front and grabbed the young "Youth" Marine the by collar escorting him and the Junior Officer out of the MCX with the Young "Youth" Marine's mother yelling, "don't touch my boy!"

That young Marine needs to learn respect. Gunny once told me, you don't have to like the young officer but you better respect the uniform and rank.

SgtMaj handled it correctly. Young marine should've never raised his voice to an officer. Hopefully he will get an EMI and not an Article 89. The mother has to realized that her baby doesn't belong to her anymore. He belongs to the Corps unless she wants him kicked out.

It's not too far fetched. There are some shitbirds out there who think they can get away with anything... especially with a witness like mommy watching. Sounds like Sergeant Major handled it appropriately. Young Marine was a douche, Junior Officer let his collar cloud his judgment and there aint a CO or XO out there that will side with a boot lou over the SgtMaj on this one!
Moral of the story, SgtMaj is ALWAYS watching!

I assume (not that we should ever assume) that the "boy" was in uniform not civilian cloths with his "cover" . In uniform why the hell would you put your cover on indoors? Either way the shouting match like that in a public place shouldn't have happened. The butterbar was probably on his high horse though. Also the junior officer could have just got his name and rank if the boy was wearing cammies and just said he was going to report him.

"Salty" Lances and Corporals can be found standing around smoke pits with their hands in their pockets and with an obvious "no-fade" but I can't even imagine the saltiest salt dog doing somethin like this... and I've met some salt dogs. I mean, bleached camies with a cigarette in the mouth getting ready to throw a boot into Bandini kind of Salt Dogs. But I've never seen anything like this. SNM should have been approached by an NCO prior to an officer taking notice of SNM's behavior. If the NCO couldn't solve the problem, he should've asked for SNM's command contact information and he should have called his command. An officer should have handled the situation similarly. To the mother: "You have no power here." I think the Sgt Maj handled the situation appropriately. It's at least how I'd expect a Sgt Maj to handle such a situation.

The whole thing seems really strange to me? Sounds like the only one in the right if this is a true story is the SGM. I don't see a junior enlisted being that far in outer space by disrespecting an officer. If it was an on spot correction which sometimes need to be made it certainly should have been done away from any family members pulled off to the side. It does not state weather any one was in uniform either? I have seen many people in the PX or BX where hats in civilian attire and no one really cares. But if the marine was in uniform he should have just complied with the lawful order. The officer should have pulled him to the side and not made a seen. The SGM is right because he's always right!!!

They both stepped in something that won't wipe off for awhile. As for me I'd rather face a firing squad than be stuck between a SgtMaj and my mother lockin horns !!!!

The young marine was wrong about putting his cover on. Arguing with the officer should of earned him ucmj action. Seems the SgtMaj was the only right headed person present. As for mommy, I would say she's the reason the young marine doesn't respect authority.
