How should a situation in the MCX about wearing a cover in the building be handled properly?

NEITHER MYSELF OR MY WIFE ARE IN THE HABIT OF TELLING A LIE OR MAKING UP A STORY - IT HAPPENED! FOCUS ON THE QUESTION - NOT WETHER YOU BELIEVE THE INCIDENT HAPPENED OR NOT!

RP Members was this handled properly by the Junior Officer, SgtMaj, or the mother? What would you have done?

THIS WAS A REAL SITUATION THAT TOOK PLACE YESTERDAY 12/30/2015

CORRECTION: I've receive collaboration from another lady who also had firsthand knowledge of this incident in the MCX - "The "youth" was not an AD USMC, but part of a group of Young Marines. Her description of this group is that it is one for troubled youth to attempt to instill discipline and maybe bring them into the fold."

I apologize to all of those individuals that I stood firm on with, that it was young Marine Private (based on all the information I received), but the discussion, question, and feedback on how the situation was handled by the Junior Officer, Sgt Mgr, and Mother have been outstanding - that I don't apologize for - thanks

If anything, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and my wife called me at home immediately following the incident - she knew I would enjoy hearing about it. I just said, "that SgtMaj owns that young Marine!"

RP Members this one comes from the wife that works at Camp Pendleton, CA Marine Base in the MCX.

A young "Youth" Marine was in the check-out line with his mother and "CORRECTION" (put his cover on inside!) He was approached by a AD Marine (Junior Officer) and asked to remove the cover. Immediately the young "Youth" Marine took up the defensive and asked the junior officer "who the F*** are you?" The Junior Officer then got into the young "Youth" Marine's face and told him to have some respect and remove the cover - it escalated into a shouting match in the check-out line in the MCX. Coming from the back of the store there was a loud roar from a Sergeant Major in the Marines (built like a tank according to my wife). He bellowed, "both of you shut your mouth there are families in here!" The MCX went silent and several employees and Marines hit the deck (no kidding). The SgtMaj came to the front and grabbed the young "Youth" Marine the by collar escorting him and the Junior Officer out of the MCX with the Young "Youth" Marine's mother yelling, "don't touch my boy!"

Sounds like another "Military Tale Tale". I think that if a young troop did wear a cover indoors it would just be a simple act of anyone making eye contact and doing a quick reminding point to the grape to alert him to his remover his brain bag. Every forgets it sometimes and everyone knows it. If it did escalate to this, then it is simple, if you are outranked, you follow the direction. If you start shouting out, you are out of line.
As I said, seems like a "SGM saves the dumb Louie" story.

MAJ Luca Luca Thanks, but it was the truth and unfortunately I've seen it before in the Army, Navy, and Marines in the past. It happens, individuals have somethingn on their mind and put their cover on before they leave building or leave it on for a few moments and they usually remove it lik you stated, but in this instance it didn't happen - I appreciate your feedback!

Todays PC correct culture makes this very different than "how we did things back in my day". An Officer or Noncommissioned Officer who assaults another military member will likely face severe reprocutions. My recommendation to an Officer/NCO who may find themselves in the situation:

A senior Military Officer/NCO (in uniform) speaking to a subordinate (in uniform).... Branch of service makes no differnce. Disregarding the initial "offense" that warranted the "on the spot uniform correction".

As soon as there was a punitive action (Insubordination), the Officer/NCO should fully identify himself, direct the subordinate to the Position of Attention/Parade Rest, demanded the ID card and Chain of Command contact information.
- If ID card and CoC infomation was provided. Contact the Officer / Senior NCO and let them handle the corrective actions. Be prepared to provide a sworn statement.
- Failure to follow the ORDERS of the Officer/NCO - Contact the Provost Marshal's Office. Get contact information of anybody who witnessed the offense. Let the PMO handle the investigation. Be prepared to provide a sworn statement.

This doesn't sound as tough, but might save your career.

First, the young Marine was wrong for wearing his cover in doors unless he was on duty. Second, the young Marine was wrong in his approach to the Junior officer and swearing in front of his mother. Last, SgtMaj is the big wig, he's seen more and done more that the two other Marines combined, I'm sure he didn't hurt the young Marine so the Mother needs to let the Marine Corps be exactly that!

The "junior Officer" needs a lesson in tact, and the young Marine a lesson in respect. I ran into a young Marine in the airport in Seattle on my way to Okinawa. His whole family was there and he was in dress blues. I noticed right away that his collar EGA's were on the wrong side, Rather than embarrass him in front of his family, I pointed out the issue privately and helped him fix it, no harm done, no harsh words. I talked with him and his family for about 30 minutes and we all left on good terms.

Article 15 for the disrespecting an Officer, bar the mother from the MCX. Tell her if she does it again she will be barred from the base.

If It's true---they're BOTH wrong. the enlisted man for wearing a cover in the MCX, the junior officer for a lack of tact and counseling skill. The enlisted man DESERVES extra duty at the minimum. The officer needed a non-punitive letter of reprimand for disturbing the peace.
