How should a situation in the MCX about wearing a cover in the building be handled properly?
NEITHER MYSELF OR MY WIFE ARE IN THE HABIT OF TELLING A LIE OR MAKING UP A STORY - IT HAPPENED! FOCUS ON THE QUESTION - NOT WETHER YOU BELIEVE THE INCIDENT HAPPENED OR NOT!
RP Members was this handled properly by the Junior Officer, SgtMaj, or the mother? What would you have done?
THIS WAS A REAL SITUATION THAT TOOK PLACE YESTERDAY 12/30/2015
CORRECTION: I've receive collaboration from another lady who also had firsthand knowledge of this incident in the MCX - "The "youth" was not an AD USMC, but part of a group of Young Marines. Her description of this group is that it is one for troubled youth to attempt to instill discipline and maybe bring them into the fold."
I apologize to all of those individuals that I stood firm on with, that it was young Marine Private (based on all the information I received), but the discussion, question, and feedback on how the situation was handled by the Junior Officer, Sgt Mgr, and Mother have been outstanding - that I don't apologize for - thanks
If anything, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and my wife called me at home immediately following the incident - she knew I would enjoy hearing about it. I just said, "that SgtMaj owns that young Marine!"
RP Members this one comes from the wife that works at Camp Pendleton, CA Marine Base in the MCX.
A young "Youth" Marine was in the check-out line with his mother and "CORRECTION" (put his cover on inside!) He was approached by a AD Marine (Junior Officer) and asked to remove the cover. Immediately the young "Youth" Marine took up the defensive and asked the junior officer "who the F*** are you?" The Junior Officer then got into the young "Youth" Marine's face and told him to have some respect and remove the cover - it escalated into a shouting match in the check-out line in the MCX. Coming from the back of the store there was a loud roar from a Sergeant Major in the Marines (built like a tank according to my wife). He bellowed, "both of you shut your mouth there are families in here!" The MCX went silent and several employees and Marines hit the deck (no kidding). The SgtMaj came to the front and grabbed the young "Youth" Marine the by collar escorting him and the Junior Officer out of the MCX with the Young "Youth" Marine's mother yelling, "don't touch my boy!"

First off its called a pissing contest not a shouting match. Number 2, that would have resulted in office hours at least. If not straight to the brig.

Hell freaking YES extra duty is at the very bottom of the list of what this undisciplined Marine should expect!! He lost his freaking mind disrespecting an officer like that. A young officer or not!! He still disrespected the officer, himself, his command, and all of the Marines before him enlisted and commissioned!! The first thing that separates Marines from the rest is his/her ability to always maintain their bearing....no matter the situation. He lost all bearing and insulted those Marines that taught him about bearing and what it means to have it! Just flat out disgusted of his behavior. Send him back to the Island or San Diego because he needs to be retrained!

I would be wearing that young marines ass out. Sgt major got him out of there before his career was ruined before it got started. That marines immediate superior is still beating his ass in the tree line.

The young officer did the right thing by approaching him and telling him to temblor the cover. The junior Marine, regardless of who told him to, should have done the right thing and removed the cover. By yelling at the officer, he was wrong, but the way the officer handled it afterwards was not any better. Seeing as there are families around, I believe he should have pulled called him over to the side and excersized tact.

Plenty of lack of tact, was the junior officer in uniform or civvies? If in uniform it's a no trainer who he is, in civvies he should have used tact and said hey PFC, you are indoors not under arms so yu need to remove your cover, PFC response should have been a thank you for the reminder not a who the hell are you. The Sgt Major is correct he is old enough to know better and though enlisted a jr officer will listen to the wisdom of a senior enlisted, especially a Sgt Major.

Regardless of what other branches do, if he is a marine he is not to wear his cover in doors. And if he is caught doing so, she should expect a correction from someone. Regardless of the rank of the corrector; if he is wrong then he should take the correction and move on with you life. It is all of our duty to police our fellow marines.

That SgtMaj hopefully saved that young fool from a charge sheet! It wasn't that long ago that I remember when SNCOs locked young Marines up at attention and drilled them publicly in the PX, parking, lot, sidewalk, etc for minor infractions. It maintained good order and discipline. Disrespect and failure to comply with orders and regulations can not be tolerated and fosters a lack of discipline. I've even had to remove some fools from the PX for being in their unit PT uniforms. Fortunately, I had a hard 1stSgt with me who took care of the situation without me having to take formal action as an officer. I know the 2 degenerates had to report to their unit SgtMaj that night. I'm sure their unit took care of them and they were squared away thereafter! Painful as it may have been... I've even had to tell junior officers to remove their covers inside. Of course, they complied, but the fact they did it at all is what's concerning... Don't even get me going about the transgressions I've scene and corrected on Navy bases... It's everyone's job to enforce the rules and maintain good order and discipline! Semper Fi Marines!

All honesty great job Sgt Major. You handled the situation accordingly. As far as the mom goes, she's has no right to say a word since she probably doesn't understand rules behind wearing covers indoors. As far as the JUNIOR officer goes, he handled it the wrong way. When the young marine ask who are you, that's when the officer should've showed some professionalism and taken the marine outside and firmly explained who he was and why he got onto that marine.

Regulation and rules are laid before this young recruit joined the forced. Why are changing it to fit this little spoiled brats so they can play army or marine. This is why we dont give out trophy to everyone.
